Even Opening as Both Teams Feel Each Other Out
Both sides started cautiously, and the opening quarter saw very little to separate them. Each team earned four circle entries in the first 15 minutes. Hyderabad Toofans enjoyed more possession, but Vedanta Kalinga Lancers created the clearer chance. They made better use of quick counter-attacks and registered the only shot on target in the quarter. Liam Henderson came close to scoring early, but goalkeeper Jean-Paul Danneberg made a fine save to keep the score level at the end of the first quarter.
Toofans Dominate Possession but Miss Chances
The tempo increased in the second quarter as both teams attacked with more intent. Each side earned a penalty corner during this phase. Hyderabad Toofans controlled most of the play and recorded 12 circle entries, compared to seven by the Lancers. However, despite their dominance, they failed to convert chances. Vedanta Kalinga Lancers came closest to scoring when Liam Henderson’s powerful shot struck the post. Still, neither team could find the breakthrough, and the first half ended goalless.
Hendrickx Breaks the Deadlock Against the Run of Play
After the break, Hyderabad Toofans continued to control the pace and searched for a way past the Lancers’ defence. However, the breakthrough came at the other end. Against the run of play, Alexander Hendrickx converted a penalty corner with a well-executed drag-flick in the 40th minute. The goal was his fifth of the season and gave Vedanta Kalinga Lancers a crucial lead. Following the goal, the Lancers became more composed, held possession smartly, and dropped deeper to protect their advantage late in the third quarter.
Strong Defence Seals the Result
In the final quarter, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers showed great discipline at the back. They allowed Hyderabad Toofans to keep the ball but denied them clear scoring chances. At the same time, the Lancers remained dangerous on the counter and earned more shots and penalty corners than their opponents. Hyderabad struggled to create openings and failed to register a single attempt on goal in the last 15 minutes. Eventually, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers closed out the match comfortably to secure another clean-sheet victory.
