Scotland Thrash Italy by 73 Runs in T20 World Cup Clash
Scotland secured a commanding 73-run victory over Italy after posting 207/4, with Michael Leask’s all-round performance sealing the win.

Scotland crushed Italy by 73 runs in the 7th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Italy invited Scotland to bat first after winning the toss. Scotland posted a huge total of 207/4 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. George Munsey and Michael Jones gave Scotland a blazing start, putting together 126 runs for the first wicket. George Munsey played a superb knock of 84 runs off 54 balls before getting out in the 14th over. Brandon McMullen (41 runs off 18 balls) and Michael Leask (22 runs off just 5 balls) entertained the crowd in the death overs. Their fierce knocks helped Scotland cross the 200-run mark. Ali Hasan (1/21 in 4 overs) was the most impactful bowler for Italy. Thomas Draca, Grant Stewart, and JJ Smuts also took one wicket each.

In reply, Michael Leask gave an early blow to Italy on the first ball of their chase. Italy lost their first three wickets in the powerplay. Harry Manenti and Benjamin Manenti showed brief resistance and added 73 runs for the fourth wicket. After that, Michael Leask (4/17 in 4 overs) demolished the remaining Italian batting line-up along with Mark Watt (2/24 in 4 overs). Italy were all out for 134 with 20 balls to spare. This win gave Scotland a morale boost after a crushing defeat against West Indies just two days ago.

Player of the Match: Michael Leask
Scotland grabbed the opportunity to secure two points with both hands. George Munsey and Michael Jones attacked the Italian bowling from the very start. The short cameos by Brandon McMullen and Michael Leask were superb. They attacked the Italian bowlers relentlessly and gave them no respect. Italy, on the other hand, need to improve their bowling and batting as it is a big tournament. Harry Manenti and Benjamin Manenti played well, but their efforts were too little to achieve a good result. They need to improve their batting as soon as possible. Be ready for more action.
