South Africa Thrash India by 76 Runs in Super Eight Showdown
South Africa defeated India by 76 runs after posting 187/7 and bowling them out for 111, taking control of Group 1 in the Super Eight stage.

South Africa crushed India by 76 runs in the third match of the Super Eight round at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After electing to bat first, South Africa lost three early wickets. Blazing knocks from David Miller, Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs helped them recover from the early setbacks and post a strong total of 187/7. Miller scored a rapid half-century to anchor the innings. Jasprit Bumrah (3/15 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for India, while Arshdeep Singh picked up two wickets.

In reply, Marco Jansen (4/22 in 3.5 overs) and Aiden Markram (1/5 in 1 over) struck early to put India under pressure, reducing them to three wickets down in the powerplay. Keshav Maharaj (3/24 in 3 overs) and Corbin Bosch (2/12 in 3 overs) then dismantled the rest of the batting line-up. India were bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs, losing the match by a big margin. Shivam Dube was the highest scorer for India.

With this win, South Africa gained the upper hand in Group 1 of the Super Eight. India now need to win both of their remaining matches to stay in contention.

South Africa Recover After Early Collapse

South Africa’s decision to bat first appeared questionable when Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh reduced them to 20 for 3. Bumrah was precise with the new ball, dismissing Quinton de Kock with a delivery that shaped back to hit the top of leg stump and later removing Ryan Rickelton with a well-executed slower off-cutter.

Arshdeep continued his strong record against Aiden Markram, claiming his wicket once again to leave South Africa under pressure.

David Miller and Dewald Brevis then engineered a decisive recovery. Recognising that batting conditions were improving, they counterattacked with calculated aggression. Miller targeted spin, particularly Varun Chakravarthy, capitalising on overpitched deliveries. He raced to 32 off 17 balls before Brevis joined the assault.

India’s discipline faltered at key moments. Hardik Pandya overstepped to concede a no-ball, and Miller struck the free hit for six. Shivam Dube repeated the mistake later, allowing Miller to bring up his half-century with another maximum.

Brevis contributed a fluent 45 off 29 before falling to Dube. Miller’s 63 off 35 formed the backbone of the innings. Although Bumrah returned at the death to concede just eight runs in two overs and dismiss Corbin Bosch, Tristan Stubbs provided the late impetus. He struck two sixes in the final over to finish unbeaten on 44 off 24, pushing South Africa to 187.

Clinical Defence Under Dew

Despite heavy dew and improved batting conditions, South Africa executed their bowling plans with precision.

Aiden Markram opened the bowling against India’s left-handed top order and dismissed Ishan Kishan for a duck. Marco Jansen struck with his first delivery, while Lungi Ngidi’s slower balls proved difficult to score. Keshav Maharaj’s over featured three boundary catches, highlighting sharp fielding and tactical awareness.

India struggled to build partnerships. The highest stand of the innings was just 35 runs.

Abhishek Sharma showed early intent but fell to Jansen’s knuckle ball after a brief stay. Corbin Bosch completed a remarkable catch despite colliding with Maharaj.

Washington Sundar, promoted in the order, edged his first delivery behind. Suryakumar Yadav found it difficult to accelerate, scoring 18 off 22 balls before departing with the required rate climbing steeply.

Middle-Order Collapse Seals Outcome

Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube briefly stabilised the innings with a 30-run partnership. However, immediately after the drinks interval, Maharaj triggered a collapse, claiming three wickets in one over with Stubbs completing the catches.

India’s lower order offered limited resistance. A dropped chance by Miller was the only blemish in an otherwise commanding South African display.

The emphatic victory not only ended India’s unbeaten run but also strengthened South Africa’s standing in the Super Eight, reinforcing their credentials as strong contenders for the title.
