A fire erupted near Dubai International Airport on Monday after a drone-related incident hit a fuel tank in the area. The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services and led to a temporary suspension of flight operations.
Officials said teams from Dubai Civil Defence were immediately dispatched to control the fire. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported as safety procedures were activated across the surrounding area.
Authorities Confirm Fire Contained
The Dubai Media Office shared updates about the situation through social media platform X. "A drone incident in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport (DXB) affected one of the fuel tanks."
Emergency crews quickly began working to control the flames. Later, officials confirmed the situation was under control.
"Dubai Civil Defence teams have successfully contained the fire resulting from impact to one of the fuel tanks in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport. No injuries have been reported."
Authorities added that emergency response teams had been deployed immediately and that all precautionary measures were taken to ensure the safety of residents, airport workers and passengers.
Flights Temporarily Suspended as Precaution
Following the incident, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority temporarily halted flights at the airport as a safety measure.
"Dubai Civil Aviation Authority announces the temporary suspension of flights at Dubai International Airport as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff. Travellers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights. Further updates will be announced through official channels as soon as they become available," the Dubai Media Office wrote on X.
Airport officials also confirmed that some flights scheduled for Dubai International Airport were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport.
Security Measures Tightened Around Airport
After the incident, Dubai Police shut down the airport road and the airport tunnel as part of security precautions. Officials highlighted that this was not the first drone-related threat reported near the airport. The incident has raised concerns about the protection of critical infrastructure in the region.
Authorities urged the public to rely on official updates as emergency teams continue to monitor the situation.
Incident Linked to Wider Regional Conflict
The attack occurred amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Officials said Iran has launched more than 1,800 missiles and drones toward the United Arab Emirates since the start of the ongoing regional conflict.
According to authorities, this has made the UAE one of the most heavily targeted countries during the crisis. Many of the attacks have disrupted travel in the Gulf’s financial hub, although air defence systems have intercepted most of the incoming projectiles.
Iran has reportedly targeted both US-linked facilities and civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports and oil facilities across the Gulf. These actions followed joint strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian leadership targets.
Casualties Reported Since Conflict Began
Meanwhile, the UAE’s defence ministry said six people have died since the start of the conflict. The casualties include four civilians and two military personnel.
Officials said the two soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash that occurred due to a technical issue.
