India Rejects Claims of US Using Its Territory for Iran Strikes
India rejected claims that the US used its territory for strikes on Iran and warned people against spreading misinformation.

The Centre firmly rejected reports that the United States used India’s territory to launch attacks on Iran. Officials called these claims “baseless” and misleading. These rumours spread on social media. They suggested that the US sought permission under the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) to carry out strikes from western India.

MEA warns public against misinformation

The Ministry of External Affairs asked people to stay alert and avoid sharing false information. In a post on X, it said, “Please stay alert against such false and baseless claims and posts on social media!”

Officials repeated that these claims have no factual basis. They urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified content, especially during sensitive global events.

What LEMOA allows and what it does not

India and the United States signed LEMOA in 2016. The agreement allows both countries to use each other’s military facilities for logistics support. This includes refuelling, repairs, and supplies.

However, the agreement does not allow either side to launch offensive operations from the other’s territory. Indian authorities have clarified this point many times.

Rumours linked to recent strike reports

The false claims gained attention after reports said a US strike sank an Iranian warship near Sri Lanka. This led to speculation about India’s involvement.

India denied any role. It said its ports and facilities were not used in the operation.

Government dismisses repeated false claims

The government has rejected similar rumours in the past. Some reports earlier claimed that US forces used Indian ports or airspace. Officials called those reports “fake and false.” They warned people not to believe or share such content.

West Asia conflict fuels speculation

Tensions in West Asia have risen sharply since February 28. The United States and Israel carried out joint strikes on Iran. These attacks reportedly killed Ali Khamenei along with senior officials.

Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases. This escalation has increased uncertainty in the region.

UK allows US base access with limits

The United States also asked the United Kingdom for access to its military bases. The UK agreed to support “operations to degrade the missile sites and capabilities being used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz.”

However, the UK said it does not want to enter a wider war. It is working with partners to protect shipping routes.

Iran warns UK against involvement

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned the UK against helping the US and Israel. He said such support could increase tensions. Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain does not want a larger military role. He added that the UK may consider steps like naval deployments to secure shipping routes.
