Australia Women Beat West Indies by 17 Runs in 2nd T20I to Seal Series
Australia Women beat West Indies Women by 17 runs to take a 2-0 lead, with Ellyse Perry and Alana King playing key roles.

Australia Women outclassed West Indies Women by 17 runs in the second T20I of the three match series at Amos Vale. Australia batted first and scored 164/5 in 20 overs through a strong team effort. Ellyse Perry top-scored for Australia. Karishma Ramharack (1/21 in 2 overs) returned the best figures for West Indies. Deandra Dottin, Jahzara Claxton, Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher took one wicket each.

West Indies started the chase well. They stayed in control until the 12th over. Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor added 77 runs for the second wicket. Alana King (2/25 in 4 overs) turned the game. She dismissed both batters in the 13th and 15th overs. Georgia Wareham (1/16 in 3 overs) supported her well in the death overs.

Dottin played a strong knock of 39 off 28 balls. However, West Indies managed only 147/4 in 20 overs. They lost the match by 17 runs. With this win, Australia took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Australia Post Competitive Total

Australia women's cricket team scored 164 for 5. This total matched their score from the first match, but they reached it differently this time. Georgia Voll gave Australia a fast start. She scored 39 runs from just 23 balls. She hit six boundaries and one six during an aggressive powerplay.

Ellyse Perry added stability with 42 runs from 28 balls. Phoebe Litchfield contributed 35 runs from 29 balls. However, West Indies bowlers pulled things back in the second half. They shared all five wickets and restricted the scoring rate.

Injury Blow for West Indies

Chinelle Henry suffered a left-hand injury while fielding. She could bowl only two overs and later did not come out to bat. This affected the team balance.

Voll Sets the Tone Early

Voll attacked from the start. She played strong pull shots and clean drives in the first overs. Her aggressive shots also caused Henry’s injury. She continued her attack with a six and more boundaries. However, she got out on the last ball of the powerplay. Australia reached 54 for 1 in six overs.

West Indies Fight Back in Middle Overs

After the powerplay, Australia slowed down. Afy Fletcher dismissed Beth Mooney with a clever delivery. It marked her 100th T20I wicket. Litchfield and Perry added 58 runs together, but they scored slowly at times. Perry hit six boundaries and led the scoring.

West Indies bowlers finished strongly. Australia managed only 39 runs in the last five overs.

Slow Start Hurts West Indies

West Indies women's cricket team struggled early. They scored only 26 runs in the powerplay. Kim Garth bowled tightly. She even delivered a maiden over. Her spell restricted scoring and built pressure.

West Indies also lost Qiana Joseph due to a run-out after poor running between the wickets.

Matthews Leads the Fightback

Hayley Matthews started slowly. She scored just 1 run from her first 12 balls. Later, she changed gears. She attacked the bowlers and played powerful shots. She hit seven boundaries and two sixes.

Matthews reached her half-century in 38 balls. At one stage, West Indies needed 75 runs from 48 balls with nine wickets in hand.

King Turns the Match

Alana King changed the game. Matthews had earlier attacked her. But King came back strongly. She dismissed Matthews and also removed Stafanie Taylor.

She finished with 2 wickets for 25 runs. Her spell ended West Indies’ hopes.

Australia Close Out the Game

Georgia Wareham added another wicket to increase pressure. Garth returned to finish the match. She bowled well but missed a chance to dismiss Deandra Dottin, who later scored 39 not out. Despite this, West Indies fell short by 17 runs.

Captain Molineux Secures First Series Win

Sophie Molineux secured her first series win as captain. She did not bat or bowl due to a back injury. Australia also missed Ashleigh Gardner, who sat out due to hamstring tightness.
