Australia Women defeated West Indies Women by 40 runs via the DLS method in the rain-affected third T20I of the three match series at Amos Vale. After being invited to bat first, Australia Women posted a huge total of 211/7 in 20 overs. Georgia Voll scored a superb century.
Hayley Matthews (3/29 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for West Indies, while Jahzara Claxton also picked up two wickets. While chasing, the West Indies women’s team struggled early again, losing three wickets in the powerplay. Lucy Hamilton picked up her first T20I wicket.
The visitors fell well behind the DLS target before rain interrupted play shortly after the drinks break. With this win, Australia Women completed a 3-0 whitewash over West Indies Women.
Voll Converts Start into Match-Winning Knock
Earlier in the series, Voll had shown promise but missed out on a big score. This time, she finished the job. She reached her fifty in 28 balls. Then, she needed only 24 more deliveries to bring up her century.
Her knock came just a month after scoring 88 against India in Canberra. She has now strengthened her place at the top of the order in the post-Alyssa Healy era. Voll dominated straight and on the leg side. She hit her first six with a powerful lofted drive off Shawnisha Hector in the third over.
Although she offered a chance on 32 with a hard return shot, it was difficult to catch. She later attacked Afy Fletcher with two sixes down the ground. She added more sixes against Zaida James and Deandra Dottin. Eventually, she reached her hundred by slicing a shot to deep third.
Middle-Order Wobbles but Late Surge Lifts Australia
However, Australia did not have a perfect innings. Phoebe Litchfield started well but failed to convert. She got out trying to accelerate. Vice-captain Tahlia McGrath also struggled. She had a chance to build a big innings but missed a drive against Zaida James. At one point, Australia looked like they might slow down. Ellyse Perry also fell soon after.
However, Nicola Carey steadied the innings. Then Molineux added quick runs at the end. Molineux hit Aaliyah Alleyne for four, six and four in one over. She also took advantage of a free hit against Jahzara Claxton to hit another six.
Australia Experiment with Bowling Options
Chasing a big target, West Indies needed a special innings. However, it never came. Qiana Joseph fell early to Megan Schutt. Hamilton then dismissed young Eboni Brathwaite with a slower ball. Australia also tried new options. Voll bowled her first over in international cricket. Her off-spin has been effective in domestic matches.
Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews hit a few boundaries but could not take control. Later, Perry ended a long wait for a wicket. She dismissed Jannillea Glasgow, her first T20I wicket since 2024.
Australia Women played well as a team. Alana King bowled effectively in all the matches. Georgia Voll scored her first T20I century in just 52 balls. Voll played a brilliant innings, hitting six sixes and helping Australia post 211 runs. This was their highest T20I total since 2023 and their fifth-highest ever.
She also joined Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney, and Alyssa Healy as Australian players with T20I centuries. Meanwhile, Sophie Molineux scored 25 runs off 12 balls at No. 8. It was her first contribution with bat or ball in the series as captain.
On the other hand, West Indies started well in the last two matches, but their batters were unable to convert their starts into meaningful innings. Now, the tour will move to a three-match ODI series in St Kitts starting Friday.Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
