US President Donald Trump made a puzzling statement on Tuesday about ongoing tensions with Iran. He claimed that a “very big present worth a tremendous amount of money” had arrived from the country, even as the two nations remain in conflict.
Confusion over talks and ceasefire pause
Trump’s remark came just a day after he announced a five-day pause in US military action against Iran. He described earlier discussions as “productive conversations.” However, his statement created confusion about who was involved in the talks and what kind of agreement was being discussed.
Iranian officials quickly denied this, stating there were no direct or indirect communications with the United States.
Iran rejects negotiations, vows to continue fight
Iran has firmly dismissed any suggestion of negotiations. It has instead vowed to continue fighting “until complete victory.” This has raised further doubts about Trump’s claim that talks were progressing.
At the same time, countries like Pakistan, Egypt, and Gulf Arab nations are quietly trying to open diplomatic channels. However, these efforts are still at an early stage. Meanwhile, Israel has indicated that it will continue its military operations.
‘They gave us a present,’ says Trump
Speaking at the White House, Trump said he does not fully trust anyone but hinted that the “gift” showed progress in dealing with the right people.
“They gave us a present, and the present arrived today,” Trump said. “It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money. And I’m not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize.”
When asked for more details, he only said it was “oil- and gas-related” and added, “It was a very nice thing they did. But what it showed me is that we’re dealing with the right people.”
Military build-up continues despite pause
Despite announcing a temporary halt in strikes on Iranian energy sites, the US appears to be increasing its military presence in the region. Reports suggest that US Marines are heading to the Middle East, raising concerns about possible ground operations.
The Pentagon is also preparing to deploy a brigade combat team from the elite 82nd Airborne Division. Additionally, around 1,000 troops are expected to be sent to the region in the coming days, according to reports.
Ceasefire plan reportedly proposed
According to reports, the Trump administration has offered a 15-point ceasefire proposal to Iran. The plan was reportedly shared through intermediaries from Pakistan, which has also offered to host fresh talks between Washington and Tehran.
Conflict between Iran and Israel continues
Meanwhile, fighting between Iran and Israel shows no sign of slowing down. Iran launched a new wave of missiles at Israel on Tuesday and also turned back a container ship from the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Israel continued its strikes on Iranian targets. Defence Minister Israel Katz said the campaign would continue “at full intensity.”
