IPL 2026: LSG Edge Past SRH in Tight Chase, Pant Leads the Way
Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 68 guided LSG to a thrilling 5-wicket win over SRH after a tense chase.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) edged past Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 5 wickets in the 10th match of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After being invited to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to score 156/9 in 20 overs. Mohammed Shami (2/9 in 4 overs) gave early blows to SRH and also kept the run rate tight. After losing early wickets, SRH were struggling at 35/3 after 10 overs.

Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy then added 116 runs for the fifth wicket and pulled SRH out of trouble. Both Klaasen and Nitish scored half-centuries. Prince Yadav and Avesh Khan also picked up two wickets each.

While chasing, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave a blazing start to LSG, adding 37 runs for the first wicket in 4.4 overs. Eshan Malinga (1/30 in 4 overs), Shivang Kumar (1/30 in 4 overs), and Harsh Dubey (2/18 in 4 overs) kept things tight during the middle overs.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, Rishabh Pant remained calm till the end and successfully guided his team over the finish line with one ball to spare. Pant scored 68 runs off 50 balls and remained unbeaten. With this win, LSG opened their account on the points table.

Shami Strikes Early to Shake SRH

After Pant chose to field first, Shami made an immediate impact against his former team. He dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head early, putting SRH under pressure.

Shami bowled three overs during the powerplay and completed his full quota by the ninth over. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan and Liam Livingstone also failed to stay long, leaving SRH struggling at 26 for 4 in the eighth over.

Klaasen and Reddy Lead Recovery

At this difficult stage, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy came together to rebuild the innings. They formed a strong partnership of 116 runs in just 63 balls, which became SRH’s highest-ever fifth-wicket stand.

Interestingly, their previous record of 82 runs was set just in the last match.

The pair started cautiously, taking SRH to 35 for 4 after 10 overs, one of the lowest halfway scores in IPL history. However, they later shifted gears and added 79 runs in the next five overs.

Klaasen, who got a lifeline on 19 when Mukul Choudhary dropped him, went on to complete his fifty in 33 balls. Reddy also reached his half-century in just 30 balls. By the end of 16 overs, SRH were in a strong position at 123 for 4.

LSG Fight Back in Death Overs

Just when SRH looked set for a big total, LSG bowlers made a strong comeback in the final overs.

Reddy was dismissed in the 17th over, and Klaasen followed soon after while attempting an aggressive shot. His wicket, taken by Pant, shifted momentum back to LSG.

SRH lost five wickets in the last four overs and managed to score only 33 runs during that phase. They finished with a total of 156 for 9.

Markram Provides Strong Start

Chasing 157, LSG got off to a solid start thanks to Aiden Markram, who scored 45 runs off 27 balls.

He, along with Mitchell Marsh, attacked early and took advantage of loose deliveries. Markram played some stylish shots, including a six over long-on, and helped LSG reach 53 for 1 at the end of the powerplay.

Middle-Order Wobble Slows LSG

Despite a good start, LSG struggled to maintain momentum as wickets kept falling regularly. The pitch made strokeplay difficult, and the chase became tricky.

Ayush Badoni was stumped, while Nicholas Pooran was run out after a mix-up. These setbacks created pressure on LSG in the middle overs.

Pant Finishes the Job in Style

With 43 runs needed from the last five overs, LSG were still ahead but had to stay calm. Pant, who had not looked very fluent for most of his innings, stepped up at the crucial moment.

He hit two boundaries off Jaydev Unadkat in the final over to level the scores. After two dot balls, Pant lofted a shot over mid-off to seal the victory.

Player of the Match: Mohammed Shami

They defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets in Hyderabad. Shami’s early breakthroughs played a major role in LSG’s win. He removed Abhishek Sharma with a slower delivery and then dismissed Travis Head with another clever variation, with Aiden Markram taking a diving catch.

Prince Yadav also contributed by dismissing Ishan Kishan with an inswinging delivery that hit the stumps. Liam Livingstone’s dismissal added to SRH’s early troubles. The match saw both teams fight hard, with SRH recovering strongly after a poor start and LSG facing challenges during the chase.
