Delhi Capitals (DC) outclassed Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets in the eighth match of IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. After being invited to bat first, Mumbai Indians managed to score 162/6 in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav played a solid knock of 51 runs off 36 balls, while Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir also made useful contributions. Mukesh Kumar (2/26 in 3 overs) was the most successful bowler for Delhi Capitals, while Axar Patel (1/22 in 4 overs) kept things tight.
In reply, Mumbai Indians gave Delhi Capitals two early setbacks. However, Sameer Rizvi added a quickfire 66 runs with Pathum Nissanka for the second wicket. When Nissanka was dismissed in the 10th over, the match was evenly balanced.
Rizvi then changed gears and played a superb knock of 90 runs off 51 balls to ensure his team stayed on track. Although Rizvi was dismissed in the 16th over, David Miller finished the game in style, with 11 balls to spare. This was the second straight win for Delhi Capitals.
DC Bowlers Restrict Mumbai on Slow Pitch
Before the chase, Delhi bowlers did a strong job. They restricted Mumbai to 162 for 6 on a slow black-soil pitch at Arun Jaitley Stadium. With Hardik Pandya unwell, Suryakumar Yadav led Mumbai and top-scored with 51 runs off 36 balls.
However, most Mumbai batters struggled to score freely. The team even failed to hit a six until the last ball of the seventh over.
Mukesh Kumar Turns the Game Early
Mukesh Kumar started poorly, conceding boundaries to Ryan Rickelton. Rohit Sharma also attacked Lungi Ngidi early. But Mukesh quickly recovered. He dismissed Rickelton with a mistimed shot and then removed Tilak Varma with a clever knuckleball.
With two right-handers at the crease, Axar Patel introduced himself into the attack. He bowled tightly and built pressure. Mumbai reached 41 for 2 in the powerplay but did not hit a single six. This was the first time since 2023 that Mumbai failed to hit a six in the powerplay.
Suryakumar Fights Alone for MI
Axar continued his strong record against Rohit. He dismissed him for 35 runs. Sherfane Rutherford also fell quickly, leaving Mumbai under pressure. However, Suryakumar kept the innings alive. He attacked the spinners and hit Kuldeep Yadav for two sixes.
He reached his fifty but got out soon after, trapped lbw by Ngidi. Without Hardik, Mumbai struggled at the end and scored only 38 runs in the death overs.
Delhi Lose Early Wickets in Chase
Delhi did not start well. KL Rahul got out for 1 run, caught off Deepak Chahar. Nitish Rana was run out in the next over after a direct hit by Jasprit Bumrah. At 7 for 2, Delhi were under pressure.
Nissanka Counterattacks
Pathum Nissanka responded with an aggressive approach. He hit boundaries against Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur. He played innovative shots, including a reverse hit over cover. Nissanka scored 44 runs off 30 balls and kept Delhi in the chase. He got a life on 41 but fell soon after.
Rizvi Takes Complete Control
At the halfway stage, both teams had the same score of 73. The match was evenly balanced. Rizvi then changed the game in one over. He attacked Corbin Bosch and scored 20 runs with a mix of powerful and smart shots.
He continued his assault in the next over. Against Mayank Markande, he hit two consecutive sixes and reached his fifty in just 31 balls. His dominance was clear. During his partnership with David Miller, Miller scored only 1 run while Rizvi did most of the scoring.
Delhi Seal Comfortable Win
By the 15th over, the result was almost certain. Delhi needed only 25 runs, while Rizvi was close to a century. He reached 90 but got out trying for a big hit. Despite missing his hundred, his innings had already secured the win. Delhi completed the chase comfortably and sealed an important victory.
Sameer Rizvi delivered another match-winning performance for Delhi Capitals. He scored 90 runs off 51 balls and helped his team chase the target against Mumbai Indians.
Delhi won the match by six wickets with 11 balls remaining. Rizvi also won his second consecutive Player-of-the-Match award in IPL 2026. If his last award from IPL 2025 is included, he now has three in a row. Only seven players have achieved this, and no one has gone beyond three. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
