US Secret Service Probes Gunshots Reported Close to White House
US Secret Service launches investigation after gunshots reported near the White House, security tightened.

The United States Secret Service has started an investigation after reports of gunfire near the White House early Sunday morning. According to CBS News, officers responded shortly after midnight to reports of gunshots near Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C.. Authorities searched the park and nearby areas, which are located just north of the White House.

No Injuries, Suspect Not Found

Officials have not reported any injuries so far. They have also not identified or located any suspect. The Secret Service said it is now searching for a possible vehicle and a person of interest linked to the incident.

Security Tightened Around White House

US President Donald Trump was in Washington during the weekend when the incident occurred.

The Secret Service confirmed that White House operations continue as usual. However, it added that “a heightened security posture is in place” as a precaution.

Roads Closed, Then Reopened

During the investigation, authorities temporarily shut down several roads around the area. Later, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that all roads had been reopened. He shared this update in a post on X.

Investigation Still Ongoing

A Secret Service representative told BBC that “the investigation is ongoing”.

The situation raised concerns because Trump stayed in the capital this weekend instead of traveling to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where he usually spends his time off.

White House Schedule Continues

White House communications director Steven Cheung said on X that Trump “has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office” during the Easter weekend.

Reports also said that Trump is scheduled to host a family Easter dinner at the White House. So far, the White House has not issued an official statement on the incident.
