Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) outclassed Mumbai Indians (MI) by 6 wickets in the 41st match of IPL 2026 at Wankhede Stadium. After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a huge total of 243/5 on the board in 20 overs. Ryan Rickelton played a blazing knock of 123 runs off just 55 balls. Will Jacks supported him well, and the duo added 93 runs for the first wicket. A quick cameo from Hardik Pandya towards the end helped Mumbai Indians reach such a big total. Praful Hinge (2/54 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In reply, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a flying start. They put on 129 runs for the first wicket in just 8.4 overs. Allah Ghazanfar (2/51 in 4 overs) dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan on consecutive deliveries in the 9th over, giving Mumbai Indians some hope. However, Heinrich Klaasen had other plans. He played a blistering knock of 65 runs off 30 balls and built crucial partnerships with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Salil Arora.
Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target with 8 balls to spare. With this win, they moved up to third place in the standings, while Mumbai Indians remained in ninth position.
SRH started aggressively. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head built a strong opening partnership of 129 runs. Notably, they scored 92 runs in the powerplay alone. Later, Heinrich Klaasen remained unbeaten on 65 off 30 balls. Salil Arora added a quick 30* off just 10 balls to finish the chase.
As a result, SRH completed the fourth-highest successful chase in IPL history and registered their fifth straight win this season.
MI Finally Click in Powerplay
Mumbai Indians changed their opening pair again, bringing in Will Jacks alongside Rickelton. Before this match, MI had one of the lowest powerplay run rates this season.
This time, however, they started strongly. Both batters attacked from the beginning and matched each other shot for shot. Jacks scored 38 off 18 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. Rickelton added 37 off 18 balls. Together, they powered MI to 78 runs in the powerplay, their second-best this season.
Rickelton Takes Control
MI quickly reached 93 in just seven overs. Then Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed Jacks at a crucial moment. Soon after, Suryakumar Yadav’s poor form continued as he got out cheaply. However, Rickelton stayed aggressive and kept scoring freely.
Earlier in the season, Rickelton had scored 81 in the opening match but then struggled and lost his place due to Quinton de Kock’s good form. However, with de Kock injured, he returned strongly.
Rickelton reached his half-century in just 23 balls. Then he continued his attack against all bowlers. He hit boundaries against Pat Cummins and others with ease. He eventually reached his maiden IPL century in just 44 balls, the fastest by a Mumbai Indians batter. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya also contributed, helping MI reach 202 for 3 in 16 overs.
SRH Pull Things Back at the Death
Despite MI’s strong position, SRH controlled the final overs well. Eshan Malinga bowled tightly and finished with figures of 1 for 29. Pat Cummins also delivered a quiet over without conceding a boundary. As a result, MI managed only 41 runs in the last four overs.
Rickelton still ended the innings strongly with a six and a four.
SRH Turn the Game in Powerplay
At the start of the chase, MI had a strong chance of winning. However, SRH quickly changed the momentum. Head and Abhishek attacked every bowler, including Jasprit Bumrah. Head got lucky as he survived a missed edge and two dropped catches.
Meanwhile, Abhishek played fearless shots. Both batters hit multiple sixes and kept the scoring rate very high. By the end of the powerplay, SRH scored at over 15 runs per over. The presence of dew made bowling difficult, and MI struggled to respond.
MI Fight Back Briefly
Travis Head reached his fifty in just 20 balls. However, MI made a comeback soon after. Ghazanfar dismissed Abhishek and Ishan Kishan in quick succession. Then Hardik Pandya removed Head.
Within two overs, SRH slipped from 129 for no loss to 133 for 3, giving MI a slight chance.
Klaasen Leads the Finish
With the required run rate still high, Heinrich Klaasen took control. He attacked the bowlers confidently and hit boundaries regularly. He smashed fours and sixes to reduce the pressure. Soon, he reached his half-century in just 22 balls.
As the game moved into the final overs, SRH needed only a manageable run rate.
Arora Seals the Win in Style
Nitish Kumar Reddy got out late in the innings, but Salil Arora ensured there were no further problems. He played some powerful shots, including a no-look straight six off Bumrah. He then hit more boundaries to finish the match.
Eventually, SRH completed the highest successful chase at Wankhede Stadium in IPL history. Mumbai Indians suffered their fourth loss at this venue this season.
Ryan Rickelton played a stunning innings in IPL 2026, scoring an unbeaten 123 off just 55 balls. This became the highest score by a Mumbai Indians batter in IPL history. However, his effort did not secure a win.
For the first time in 22 matches at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians chose to bat first. Riding on Rickelton’s brilliant century, they posted 243 for 5, their highest first-innings total in the IPL. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased the target with ease. They won by six wickets with eight balls remaining in a high-scoring match. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
