Delhi Capitals (DC) kept their slim playoff hopes alive after defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 3 wickets in the 55th match of IPL 2026 at Dharamsala. After being invited to bat first, Punjab Kings scored 210/5 in 20 overs. Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer scored blazing-fast half-centuries. A quick cameo from Suryansh Shedge at the end helped Punjab Kings cross the 200-run mark. Madhav Tiwari (2/40 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for Delhi Capitals, while Mitchell Starc also took 2 wickets.
While chasing, Delhi Capitals lost three quick wickets in the powerplay, but blazing-fast fifties from Axar Patel and David Miller brought them close to the target. Madhav Tiwari and Auqib Nabi eventually took Delhi Capitals across the finishing line. Arshdeep Singh (2/21 in 4 overs) remained the most successful bowler for Punjab Kings.
In the end, Delhi Capitals completed the highest successful T20 chase at the venue and handed PBKS their fourth straight defeat. The match swung repeatedly from one side to the other before Delhi chased down the target with one over remaining. With this win, Delhi Capitals are now sitting in 7th position on the points table with 10 points, while Punjab Kings remain in 4th position with 13 points.
Seam-Friendly Pitch Dominates the Match
The Dharamsala pitch heavily assisted fast bowlers throughout the game. The conditions helped seam movement so much that neither side bowled a single over of spin. It was the first time such a thing happened in a full-length IPL match since 2008.
After being asked to bat first, PBKS posted 210 for 5 in 20 overs. Half-centuries from Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer helped the team cross the 200-run mark.
Later, Iyer admitted that PBKS probably scored around 30 runs more than the par total on the pitch.
Priyansh Arya Gives PBKS a Flying Start
Priyansh Arya started aggressively from the very first ball. Mitchell Starc began with a full delivery outside off stump, but Arya smashed it over cover-point for six. Starc struggled badly in the opening over. He also bowled a short ball that went for five wides. Arya attacked again and hit another six before Prabhsimran Singh added a boundary.
The over produced 22 runs, making it the most expensive first over of Starc’s T20 career. Arya continued the assault against Lungi Ngidi and struck back-to-back sixes. PBKS raced to 51 without loss after only three overs.
Nabi and Mukesh Kumar Slow PBKS Down
Despite the explosive start, Delhi’s bowlers fought back well. The pitch still offered seam movement, and Auqib Nabi along with Mukesh Kumar used it effectively. Arya reached his half-century in just 24 balls, but PBKS managed only 21 runs in the next three overs.
Mukesh Kumar dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for 18, while Madhav Tiwari removed Arya soon after. PBKS slipped to 97 for 2 after nine overs.
Shreyas Iyer Anchors the Innings
Shreyas Iyer kept the innings together from No. 3. However, Cooper Connolly initially struggled to score quickly, and PBKS slowed down during the middle overs. Connolly later found rhythm and smashed Starc for a massive 96-metre six. He also attacked Ngidi with consecutive boundaries.
Meanwhile, Iyer kept finding regular boundaries and completed his fifty in 32 balls after hitting Tiwari for two sixes. Tiwari eventually dismissed Connolly, while Starc struck twice in the 19th over by removing Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh on consecutive balls.
However, Suryansh Shedge provided a late boost. He smashed the hat-trick ball for six and continued attacking Starc with another six and a four. PBKS crossed 200 because of his late cameo.
Delhi Lose Early Wickets in the Chase
Delhi’s chase began poorly. Playing his first match of the season, Yash Thakur made an immediate impact by bowling Abishek Porel. Arshdeep Singh then dismissed KL Rahul with a short ball. Marco Jansen completed an excellent diving catch after sprinting from slip.
Arshdeep struck again in the powerplay by dismissing Sahil Parakh. DC slipped to 33 for 3.
Axar Patel and David Miller Revive Delhi
Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs stabilised the innings briefly before Stubbs got run out after a mix-up. Delhi then found themselves struggling at 74 for 4. PBKS missed a huge opportunity when Suryansh Shedge dropped Axar Patel at deep square leg. Axar was batting on 25 at that stage. The DC captain fully capitalised on the lifeline. Along with David Miller, he added 64 runs in only 34 balls and brought Delhi back into the contest.
Axar attacked Marcus Stoinis with three consecutive boundaries and completed his half-century. However, he got out while trying to clear the boundary again.
Miller, Ashutosh and Tiwari Finish the Chase
Punjab briefly regained control when Arshdeep bowled an economical 15th over. Delhi still needed 68 runs from the last five overs. However, Miller shifted momentum again by smashing Marco Jansen and Ben Dwarshuis for crucial boundaries and sixes.
Miller eventually fell while attempting another big hit, but Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari kept attacking. Ashutosh used clever angles, while Tiwari produced clean hitting under pressure. Together with Auqib Nabi, they guided Delhi to victory with one over remaining.
Punjab’s bowlers struggled with discipline throughout the innings and conceded 17 wides, which proved costly in a close match. The team also delayed using Yuzvendra Chahal, limiting their bowling flexibility during the crucial final overs. The defeat marked PBKS’ fourth consecutive loss, while Delhi remained alive in the playoff race with an important win. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
