K-pop and global sports are coming together once again, this time at the FIFA World Cup 2026. After Jungkook impressed fans with his performance of “Dreamers” during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reports now suggest that Lisa will perform at the opening ceremony of the 2026 tournament.
Several media reports, along with confirmation from Lisa’s agency LLOUD, stated that the Blackpink star will be part of the event.
FIFA World Cup 2026 to Have Three Opening Ceremonies
According to a report by Korea JoongAng Daily citing The Athletic, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature opening ceremonies across three host countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Unlike previous editions, FIFA reportedly plans to organise three separate opening shows to reflect the culture of each host nation.
Lisa is expected to perform during the United States opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The performance will reportedly take place before the opening match between the United States and Paraguay.
Star-Studded Lineup Planned for Los Angeles Ceremony
Reports said FIFA has already finalised agreements for the Los Angeles event. Lisa will reportedly share the stage with several international artists.
The lineup is expected to include Katy Perry, Future, and DJ Sanjoy.
Although the opening show in Los Angeles will reportedly last only around 13 minutes, FIFA plans to showcase artists from different cultural backgrounds.
Canada and Mexico Ceremonies to Feature Local Stars
The Toronto opening ceremony is expected to feature famous Canadian artists including Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, and Alessia Cara.
The Mexico ceremony will reportedly be slightly longer and may take place at Estadio Azteca.
Reports said the Mexican opening show could feature performances by Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, and Tyla.
K-pop’s Growing Presence in Global Sports
The connection between K-pop and international sports has continued to grow in recent years.
Earlier, Jungkook performed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. K-pop artists have also collaborated with leagues like the NBA and other global sports organisations.
The report noted that placing Lisa at the centre of the North American World Cup opener could help FIFA attract younger global audiences through music and sports entertainment.
Industry experts believe such collaborations could generate massive global attention and billions in revenue for the tournament.
