MP High Court Orders Second Autopsy in Twisha Sharma Death Case
The Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy by an AIIMS Delhi team in the Twisha Sharma death case while the state moved to hand the probe to the CBI.

Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday ordered a second autopsy in the alleged dowry death case of Twisha Sharma and directed the state government to arrange a specialised medical team from AIIMS Delhi for the examination.

The court also made several important observations while hearing petitions connected to the case.

AIIMS Delhi team to conduct fresh post-mortem

A single bench of the high court instructed the Madhya Pradesh government to immediately fly a specialised team of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi to Bhopal for a second post-mortem examination.

The decision came just two days after Judicial Magistrate First Class Anudita Gupta rejected the family’s request for another autopsy. The magistrate had earlier stated that the investigation conducted so far did not justify a second post-mortem.

Family alleges foul play

Twisha Sharma, who was in her 30s and originally from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, was found dead on May 12 at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Bagh Mugalia Extension area.

Her family alleged foul play and claimed there were injury marks on her body. Relatives also said Twisha had previously told them that her husband assaulted her. The case has triggered strong reactions and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Husband moves to surrender

Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband, appeared at the Jabalpur district court on Friday evening to surrender after withdrawing his anticipatory bail plea before the high court.

Following the withdrawal of his application, the court said he had no option except to surrender either before the investigating officer or the trial court. Police had earlier announced a reward of ₹30,000 for information leading to his arrest. Authorities had also approached the court seeking cancellation of his passport.

Notice issued to former judge

The high court also issued a notice to Giribala Singh, Samarth Singh’s mother and a former judge. She has also been named as an accused in the case. The notice came after petitions were filed by Twisha’s father and the state government seeking cancellation of her anticipatory bail.

Dowry harassment allegations

Twisha Sharma was reportedly found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. However, the Singh family claimed that Twisha was addicted to drugs.

Police registered an FIR against Samarth Singh and his mother under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

MP government recommends CBI probe

The Madhya Pradesh government has recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the Twisha Sharma death case. The state government has already approved handing over the investigation to the CBI. The move came amid growing public attention and demands for a deeper investigation into the alleged dowry death.
