Freya Kemp Powers England Women to Series-Levelling Win Over India
England Women levelled the T20I series 1-1 after Freya Kemp's explosive unbeaten 39 and two wickets powered a 26-run victory over India Women in Bristol.

England Women outclassed India Women by 26 runs in the second T20I of the three-match series in Bristol. After being asked to bat first, England Women scored 168/5 in their 20 overs.

India Women kept the bowling tight, and England were struggling at 126/5 after 17.3 overs. Shree Charani (3/25 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for India Women. Freya Kemp came in late and smashed an unbeaten 39 off just 13 balls. Her explosive knock helped England reach a competitive total of 168.

In reply, India Women lost wickets at regular intervals. While Smriti Mandhana was at the crease, India looked strong, but as the required run rate climbed in the death overs, they lost five wickets in the final 16 balls and managed only 18 runs during that period.

Freya Kemp (2/15 in 2 overs) was the most successful bowler for England Women, while Charlie Dean and Lauren Bell also picked up two wickets each. Yastika Bhatia, who retired out, was the highest scorer for India Women. With this victory, England Women levelled the series 1-1.

England Recover After Slow Start

England struggled to gain momentum early in their innings. They managed only 35 for 1 during the powerplay and found it difficult to accelerate against India's disciplined bowling attack.

India’s left-arm spinner N Shree Charani was particularly effective. She kept the batters under pressure and prevented England from building partnerships. Several England batters got starts but failed to convert them into big scores.

However, Kemp changed the course of the innings in the closing overs. Coming to the crease with England at 116 for 4 in the 17th over, she launched a stunning counterattack. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 39 from just 13 deliveries, scoring at a strike rate of 300.

Her late assault pushed England to a competitive total of 168 for 5.

Kemp's Late Blitz Lifts England

Kemp wasted no time after arriving at the crease. She started with an elegant cover drive against Shree Charani before building a crucial partnership with Dani Gibson after Alice Capsey was dismissed.

The pair added valuable runs in the final overs. Kemp then exploded in the last over bowled by Arundhati Reddy. She smashed a full toss for six over long-on, followed it with two boundaries, and finished with another powerful six.

Her aggressive strokeplay gave England the strong finish they desperately needed.

Shree Charani Leads India's Bowling Effort

Despite England's late surge, Shree Charani impressed once again with the ball. She repeatedly broke important partnerships and restricted England's scoring rate.

Sophia Dunkley survived an early drop when Jemimah Rodrigues missed a chance at backward point off Nandani Sharma's bowling. Dunkley capitalized briefly by hitting a six but was soon dismissed after Nandani switched ends.

Amy Jones, returning to the No. 3 position, looked promising but Shree Charani ensured she did not make a major impact. The spinner first ended a productive stand between Jones and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who was playing her first match of the season after maternity leave. Wyatt-Hodge was caught by Smriti Mandhana at short third after the pair added 36 runs from only 25 balls.

Shree Charani then removed Jones as well, with Harmanpreet Kaur taking a sharp catch at cover.

Heather Knight's Struggles Continue

England captain Heather Knight once again got a start but failed to convert it into a substantial score.

After making 18 from 14 balls, she charged down the pitch to Shree Charani but only managed to offer a simple return catch. Knight was visibly frustrated as she walked back to the pavilion.

Her recent T20I scores this season now read 19, 25, 18, 21 and 18. Given her experience as England's most-capped women's player with 311 appearances across formats, the team will hope she rediscovers her best form ahead of the World Cup.

India's Chase Never Gains Full Control

India's pursuit of 169 began poorly when Lauren Bell removed Shafali Verma in the third over. England also missed a few opportunities in the field.

Sophie Ecclestone dropped a low chance offered by Yastika Bhatia, while Charlie Dean later failed to hold onto a return catch when Bhatia was batting on 29.

Bhatia, who played a major role in India's victory in the first T20I, looked set to anchor another successful chase. However, she surprisingly retired out after scoring 33 from 36 balls.

Soon after, Jemimah Rodrigues walked in. She had shared a match-winning century partnership with Bhatia in the previous match. But Kemp struck immediately, dismissing Rodrigues with only the second ball she faced.

England Tighten Their Grip

India needed 60 runs from the final five overs when Rodrigues was dismissed. From there, England's bowlers steadily tightened their control.

Dean produced a decisive over, removing both Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur. Those wickets left India requiring 39 runs from the final two overs.

As the pressure increased, wickets continued to fall. Dean finished with excellent figures of 2 for 20 from four overs, including 12 dot balls. Bell also claimed two wickets, while Kemp contributed 2 for 15 from her two-over spell. England's all-round performance ensured a comfortable 26-run victory and levelled the series at 1-1.

Player of the Match: Freya Kemp

Freya Kemp delivered an outstanding all-round performance to help England defeat India by 26 runs in the second T20I at Bristol and draw level in the three-match series. The young all-rounder played a match-winning unbeaten knock and then struck key blows with the ball as England bounced back after their defeat in the opening game at Chelmsford.

Kemp's explosive batting and crucial wickets proved decisive in a contest that swung England's way during the final overs of both innings. The two teams will now meet in the series-deciding third T20I at Taunton on Tuesday, with both sides aiming to claim the series.
