Sooryavanshi Back in Focus as India A Face Sri Lanka A in Final
As India A and Sri Lanka A prepare for the Tri-Nation Series final, all eyes are on teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi following his controversial altercation with a Sri Lankan player during their previous meeting.

India A and Sri Lanka A are set to battle for the Tri-Nation A Series title on Sunday in what promises to be an exciting final. However, much of the attention ahead of the contest has focused on young Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and the controversy that surrounded the previous meeting between the two sides.

The 15-year-old prodigy found himself at the center of a heated on-field incident after India A suffered a Super Over defeat to Sri Lanka A during the group stage.

Sooryavanshi in Focus Ahead of Final

Cricket fans will be eager to see how Sooryavanshi performs in the title clash, especially after the dramatic scenes that unfolded during the teams' earlier encounter.

Following India's loss in the Super Over, Sooryavanshi became involved in an altercation with Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage. During the confrontation, the young batter was seen pushing Halambage away as tensions escalated between the players. The incident quickly became a major talking point and drew mixed reactions from fans and cricket experts.

Reports Claimed Verbal Exchanges Throughout Tournament

Several reports emerged after the altercation, suggesting that Halambage had repeatedly engaged in verbal exchanges with Sooryavanshi throughout the tournament.

According to Cricbuzz, one of the comments allegedly directed at the Indian batter was, "Go home, this is not the IPL," or words to that effect. Reports claimed that the exchanges began early in the Tri-Nation Series and continued during matches between the two teams.

Sri Lanka A Captain Rejects Targeting Claims

Ahead of the final, Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige dismissed suggestions that his team had deliberately targeted Sooryavanshi. He insisted that emotions simply got the better of players during a highly competitive contest.

“The boys are not targeting anyone or anything. They are just enjoying themselves. In a close game like a Super Over, emotions come out. That’s normal," he told Sportstar. Arachchige also emphasized the experience within the Sri Lankan squad.

“There are a lot of experienced players in this team. They know what to do, and they know how to play,” he added.

Former India Batter Criticises Sooryavanshi's Reaction

The images of Sooryavanshi pushing the Sri Lankan player generated strong debate across the cricketing community. Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar was among those who criticized the youngster's actions.

Manjrekar said that if he had been part of the India A management team, he would have dropped Sooryavanshi from the next match against Afghanistan A as a disciplinary measure and to teach him a lesson.

What Happened During the Altercation?

According to reports, tensions flared immediately after Sri Lanka A secured victory in the Super Over. Halambage allegedly approached Sooryavanshi and also moved toward Indian batter Suryansh Shedge during the celebrations.

The situation escalated when Sooryavanshi reacted, leading to a brief confrontation between the players. Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella eventually stepped in and helped calm the situation before it developed further.

Both Teams Earned Their Place in the Final

Despite the controversy, both teams successfully booked their spots in the final. India A secured qualification after a dominant 101-run victory over Afghanistan A on June 17.

Sri Lanka A then defeated Afghanistan A to confirm a title clash against Tilak Varma's side. The final will now provide India A with an opportunity to avenge their earlier defeat and lift the trophy.

Big Opportunity Awaits Sooryavanshi

Regardless of the outcome of the final, an important chapter awaits Sooryavanshi immediately afterward.  The teenage batter will travel to Ireland alongside captain Tilak Varma for India's upcoming two-match T20I series in Belfast.

If selected, Sooryavanshi could become the youngest player ever to represent India's senior men's team. The youngster recently created history by becoming the youngest cricketer selected in an Indian squad, surpassing a 36-year-old record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Final Offers Chance for Redemption

As India A and Sri Lanka A prepare for the Tri-Nation Series final, the spotlight will remain firmly on Sooryavanshi. The teenager has already shown immense talent and maturity at a young age, but Sunday's final presents another opportunity to make headlines for the right reasons. With a trophy on the line and a potential senior India debut on the horizon, all eyes will be on the rising star as he looks to help India A finish the tournament on a high.
