ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026: Australia Women Crush Netherlands by 98 Runs in One-Sided Contest
Australia Women strengthened their semi-final hopes with a dominant 98-run victory over Netherlands Women after posting a massive 219/6 in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026.

Australia Women thrashed Netherlands Women by 98 runs in the 14th match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 at West End. Netherlands Women won the toss and elected to field first.

Australia Women posted a formidable 219/6 in their 20 overs, thanks to blazing half-centuries from Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner. Georgia Wareham also played a fiery cameo, scoring 41 runs off just 18 balls. Iris Zwilling (3/52 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for the Netherlands, while Caroline de Lange picked up two wickets.

In reply, the target proved far too much for the Netherlands Women. Despite a spirited effort from captain Babette de Leede, who remained unbeaten on 56 off 57 balls, the team fell well short. Sterre Kalis contributed 44 runs from 43 deliveries.

Australia Women's disciplined bowling attack did not allow the Netherlands batters to score freely, restricting them to 121/3 in 20 overs. Kim Garth (2/20 in 4 overs) was the standout bowler for Australia Women, while Annabel Sutherland claimed one wicket. The victory moved Australia Women closer to securing a semi-final berth, with Group A matches against Pakistan and India still to come.

Beth Mooney Stars Before Injury Concern

Australia made a flying start after being asked to bat.

Beth Mooney led the charge with an outstanding 74 off 42 balls. She controlled the innings from the beginning and helped Australia race ahead without taking unnecessary risks.

However, her innings ended prematurely when she experienced back stiffness while running during the 15th over. Mooney immediately left the field for assessment and retired hurt.

Team officials believe the issue is not serious, and her decision to leave the field appeared to be precautionary.

The injury created another challenge for Australia because Mooney was the only specialist wicketkeeper in the squad. With reserve keeper Phoebe Litchfield already sidelined through injury, Georgia Voll had to take over behind the stumps for the first time in her professional T20 career.

Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham Power Australia to 219

Ashleigh Gardner made an impressive return from injury and played a major role in Australia's huge total.

The all-rounder smashed 58 runs from just 32 deliveries and punished the Dutch bowlers throughout her innings. She reached her half-century in only 28 balls and played several elegant attacking shots. Georgia Wareham then added late fireworks with a blistering 41 off just 18 balls.

After Mooney and Gardner departed, Wareham took control of the innings and struck eight boundaries. Her aggressive batting ensured Australia maintained their momentum and crossed the 200-run mark comfortably.

Although Nicola Carey, Annabel Sutherland, Sophie Molineux and Alana King contributed only modestly at the end, Australia's earlier dominance had already laid the foundation for a massive score.

Australia Equal Women's T20 World Cup Record

Australia's total of 219/6 matched the highest score ever recorded in Women's T20 World Cup history. The innings showcased the depth of Australia's batting line-up and underlined why they remain one of the favourites to win the tournament.

The gulf in quality between the two sides became clear from the opening overs as Australia scored freely and consistently found boundaries.

Kim Garth's Early Breakthroughs Hurt Netherlands

The Netherlands faced an uphill battle from the beginning of their chase. Kim Garth delivered another outstanding spell with the new ball and removed two key batters inside the powerplay.

She first forced Phebe Molkenboer to edge behind before trapping Heather Siegers leg-before wicket with a superb delivery. Garth finished with figures of 2 for 18 and left the Netherlands struggling at 28/2 after six overs. At that stage, any hopes of a remarkable upset appeared highly unlikely.

Babette de Leede and Sterre Kalis Show Resistance

Despite the difficult situation, Dutch captain Babette de Leede and Sterre Kalis refused to surrender. The pair put together a valuable 96-run partnership and provided the Netherlands with some respectability during the chase.

De Leede marked her 100th T20 International appearance with an unbeaten 56 from 57 balls. She battled throughout the innings and received warm applause from Dutch supporters after reaching her half-century.

Kalis also impressed with her attacking intent. She scored the Netherlands' first six of the tournament when she launched Alana King over the boundary with a powerful strike. Their partnership became the joint fourth-highest stand against Australia in Women's T20 World Cup history.

Australia's Bowlers Maintain Control

Although the Netherlands showed resilience, they never seriously threatened Australia's target. Australia's bowlers remained disciplined and controlled the scoring rate throughout the innings.

The fielding side did miss a couple of difficult chances, including two dropped opportunities against Kalis, but the result was never in doubt. Georgia Voll also enjoyed a memorable moment behind the stumps by taking a sharp catch during her unexpected wicketkeeping appearance. Australia eventually restricted the Netherlands comfortably and completed a dominant 98-run victory.

Player of the Match: Beth Mooney

Australia delivered a dominant performance against the Netherlands at Southampton, equalling the highest total in Women's T20 World Cup history before securing a comfortable 98-run victory. However, the emphatic win was slightly overshadowed by an injury scare involving star batter Beth Mooney, who retired hurt after suffering back stiffness during her brilliant innings.

The convincing victory strengthened Australia's position in Group 1 and brought them closer to securing a place in the semi-finals. The defending champions now have two important group-stage matches remaining against Pakistan and India.

While Australia will be pleased with their record-equalling batting display, they will also be hoping that Mooney's back problem proves to be minor as they prepare for the crucial stages of the tournament. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
