FIFA World Cup 2026: Netherlands Top Group F With Comfortable Win Over Tunisia
The Netherlands secured top spot in Group F with a convincing 3-1 victory over Tunisia, setting up a FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against Morocco.

The Netherlands finished at the top of Group F after a comfortable 3-1 victory over Tunisia on Thursday. The win secured the Dutch a place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32, where they will face Morocco.

Ronald Koeman's side finished above Japan in the group standings after Japan were held to a draw by Sweden earlier in the day. As a result, the Netherlands advanced as group winners, while Japan will meet tournament favourites Brazil in the knockout stage.

Netherlands Make Flying Start

The Dutch made an excellent start despite rainy conditions at Kansas City Stadium. They took the lead in just the second minute when Tunisia captain Ellyes Skhiri accidentally turned Denzel Dumfries' cross into his own net while trying to stop Brian Brobbey from reaching the ball.

Only five minutes later, the Netherlands doubled their advantage. Virgil van Dijk headed a free-kick back into the danger area, and Brian Brobbey finished from close range to score his third goal of the tournament. The fast start also created history, as the Netherlands scored twice within the opening seven minutes of a World Cup match for the first time.

Tunisia Struggle to Respond

Tunisia entered the match already eliminated after losing their opening two group games. The team had also changed coaches during the tournament.

Before the Dutch took control, Ismael Gharbi created an early opportunity for Tunisia but failed to hit the target. The Netherlands dominated possession and controlled the game for most of the first half, leaving Tunisia with very few attacking opportunities.

Tunisia Pull One Back but Dutch Respond Quickly

Tunisia gave themselves hope midway through the second half. Hazem Mastouri headed home from Hannibal Mejbri's corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and briefly put pressure on the Dutch.

However, the Netherlands restored their two-goal lead almost immediately. Defender Jan Paul van Hecke scored his first international goal when he headed in Tijjani Reijnders' corner. The ball took a slight deflection off Anis Slimane before finding the back of the net.

Dutch Carry Strong Momentum Into Knockout Stage

The victory completed an impressive group-stage campaign for the Netherlands, who now enter the knockout rounds full of confidence. They will face Morocco in the Round of 32 on Monday as they continue their bid for World Cup success.

Tunisia, meanwhile, ended their tournament with only one point and exited the competition after failing to progress beyond the group stage.
