India Bowlers Restrict Zimbabwe to 125
Earlier, India's young bowling attack produced a disciplined performance to limit Zimbabwe to 125 for 7. Despite fielding an inexperienced pace attack, India never allowed Zimbabwe's batters to settle.
Fast bowlers Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav struck early and removed Zimbabwe's top order. Before this match, apart from Shivam Dube, India's fast bowlers had played only seven T20Is combined.
Mayank and Prince bowled with pace and accuracy. Together, they conceded only 37 runs in their eight overs while picking up key wickets. Every Indian bowler maintained an economy rate of eight runs per over or less.
Mayank Yadav Gives India Dream Start
Mayank Yadav made an immediate impact with the very first ball of the match. He dismissed Brian Bennett with a delivery that moved away after pitching. The ball took the edge, and India successfully reviewed the on-field decision to claim the wicket.
Mayank then continued to trouble Zimbabwe's batters with deliveries touching 149 km/h and 146 km/h. Prince Yadav also joined the attack by dismissing debutant Ben Curran before Mayank removed Dion Myers. Zimbabwe struggled at 26 for 3 after the powerplay.
Wessly Madhevere Fights Back for Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe slipped further to 32 for 4 before Wessly Madhevere tried to rebuild the innings. He survived an lbw appeal after a review showed a faint edge on UltraEdge.
Madhevere first played cautiously while Ryan Burl attacked the Indian bowlers. Burl scored 26 before losing his wicket while trying to clear the boundary. After settling in, Madhevere increased the scoring rate. He hit consecutive boundaries off Ashok Sharma and later launched Ravi Bishnoi over long-on for a six.
He shared a valuable 58-run partnership with Tadiwanashe Marumani, Zimbabwe's highest stand of the innings. Madhevere scored 39 off 34 balls before getting run out in the final over while attempting a second run. It was his highest T20I score in 16 innings and his best against India since scoring 43 at the same venue in July 2024.
Teen Star Takes on Zimbabwe's Tall Fast Bowlers
The match presented another memorable moment for the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi as he faced Zimbabwe's towering fast bowlers. Blessing Muzarabani welcomed him with a sharp bouncer, but the teenager quickly settled after getting off the mark. He then attacked Zimbabwe captain Richard Ngarava.
After leaving the first delivery, Sooryavanshi stepped across and smashed Ngarava for a six over backward square. He followed it with a four through extra cover and another six over long-off.
He continued his aggressive approach against Brad Evans before producing one of the best shots of the innings against Muzarabani, lifting him over long-on for a magnificent six between two boundaries. His explosive innings completely shifted the momentum in India's favour.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Smashes Fastest Fifty of His T20I Career
Chasing a modest target of 126, Sooryavanshi gave India a flying start with fearless stroke play. The young opener attacked Zimbabwe's pace bowlers from the beginning. He raced to 48 runs from just 17 balls during the powerplay before completing his maiden international half-century off only 18 deliveries.
He dominated the bowling with powerful shots all around the ground and virtually sealed the chase before getting out. Soon after reaching his fifty, Sooryavanshi attempted another attacking shot against Richard Ngarava but was caught at deep third. By then, India had reached 68 for 2 and needed only 58 more runs.
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer Complete Comfortable Chase
After Sooryavanshi departed, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer ensured there were no further setbacks. The pair added a quick 46-run partnership for the third wicket.
Kishan entertained the crowd with a six over fine leg off Brad Evans and later pulled Newman Nyamhuri for another maximum. Iyer also played freely and brought up India's 100 with a boundary. India needed only 14 runs from the final nine overs and comfortably completed the chase in the 14th over with 40 balls remaining.
