Bangladesh Stun Australia With Nine-Wicket Win in Darwin Test
Bangladesh stunned Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to claim a historic Test victory, powered by a dominant bowling display and crucial batting performances.

Bangladesh outclassed Australia by nine wickets in the first Test of the two-match series in Darwin. This was one of the biggest surprises Bangladesh have ever produced in the history of Test cricket.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Australia were bowled out for 198 by Bangladesh. Mahmud Hasan, who took 6/55 in 17 overs, led the bowling attack, while Taskin Ahmed claimed 2/55 in 16 overs and Ebadot Hossain took 2/39 in 11 overs. The trio dismantled Australia’s batting line-up.

In reply, Bangladesh posted 426 in their first innings. Tanzid Hasan scored a superb century, while Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made impressive half-centuries.

Australia were then dismissed for 284 in their second innings, leaving Bangladesh with just 57 runs to win on the fourth afternoon. Mominul Haque hit the winning runs at 2:36 pm local time.

The early finish gave Bangladesh’s players, coaches and support staff an entire day to celebrate their historic achievement.

Bangladesh Complete Historic Chase

A small group of Bangladesh supporters also joined the celebrations. They created plenty of noise inside an almost empty Marrara Oval on Sunday. The victory represents a major milestone for Bangladesh cricket, particularly after a difficult year in which the team missed the T20 World Cup for political reasons.

Despite those problems, Bangladesh have improved significantly since March. Their progress eventually produced one of the biggest Test victories in the country’s history. Hasan Mahmud Leads The Bowling Attack

Hasan Mahmud played a central role in Bangladesh’s success. He claimed nine wickets across the match and repeatedly troubled Australia’s batters. Tanzid Hasan also made a major contribution by scoring his maiden Test century. Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a crucial half-century and later completed a five-wicket haul.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was another key figure. He contributed important runs and also made several effective decisions as captain throughout the match. Together, these performances allowed Bangladesh to overcome a team that had entered the contest as the No. 1 side in the world.

Bangladesh Overcame A Difficult Build-Up

The result looked even more unexpected because Bangladesh had struggled badly before the Test. Just a week before the match, they were bowled out for only 54 runs against a Cricket Australia XI in a warm-up game. They also entered the Test series without their emerging fast-bowling star Nahid Rana.

Despite those setbacks, Bangladesh’s bowling attack delivered an outstanding performance. Australia were dismissed for fewer than 300 runs in both innings.

Bangladesh’s batting unit also exceeded expectations. A line-up that had looked fragile during the build-up showed far greater discipline and resilience when the Test was on the line.

Mehidy Creates The Opening

Bangladesh’s push toward victory began during the third afternoon when they secured a first-innings lead of 228 runs over Australia. Australia began the fourth morning still 67 runs behind and had already lost four wickets.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz then played a crucial role by keeping pressure on the Australian batters. He bowled a series of dot balls and restricted the scoring. Alex Carey eventually attempted to play the ball down the wrong line and was caught behind for 30. His dismissal gave Bangladesh the opening they needed to put Australia under even more pressure.

Mehidy soon struck again. He produced a delivery that drifted away from Beau Webster and went on to hit the off stump. Pat Cummins then fell to the offspinner after getting an inside edge toward short leg. Shadman Islam completed the catch. Bangladesh continued to attack after the break. Taskin Ahmed dismissed Mitchell Starc, putting Australia in further trouble.

Cameron Green Fights Back

Cameron Green provided Australia's biggest resistance. He reached his third Test century and finished with 104 runs. Green showed tremendous patience and remained at the crease for almost five hours. He faced 201 deliveries and hit only four fours during his long stay at the crease.

Green tried to keep Australia’s innings alive despite receiving very little support from the other end. At one stage, he launched a huge six over midwicket against Taskin Ahmed. Taskin then had another chance to remove him from the next delivery, but he could not hold a difficult return catch. Green’s determined innings gave Australia some hope, but Bangladesh continued to create chances and maintain pressure.

Hasan Mahmud Finishes The Job

Captain Shanto brought Hasan Mahmud back into the attack at an important stage of the innings. Mahmud quickly rewarded his captain by removing Green. The delivery moved back into the batter and stayed unusually low. Green got an inside edge, but the ball still went on to hit the stumps and ended his resistance.

The dismissal effectively ended Australia’s hopes of setting Bangladesh a challenging target. Mehidy then completed the innings by dismissing Nathan Lyon leg before wicket. The wicket gave Mehidy his third five-wicket haul in an overseas Test and his 15th five-wicket haul overall.

A Landmark Result For Bangladesh

Bangladesh eventually needed only 57 runs to complete the victory. They reached the target with nine wickets in hand, underlining just how thoroughly they had dominated Australia.

The result was built on contributions across the team. Hasan Mahmud’s nine wickets, Tanzid Hasan’s maiden century, Mehidy’s all-round performance and Shanto’s leadership combined to produce a remarkable result.

Bangladesh had arrived after a poor warm-up performance and without one of their leading young fast bowlers. Yet they responded by bowling out Australia twice for fewer than 300 and holding their nerve with the bat.

The nine-wicket victory will therefore stand as a landmark moment in Bangladesh cricket. It not only gave them their first Test win in Australia but also showed that they could challenge and defeat the world’s top-ranked Test side on its own soil.

Bangladesh produced one of the biggest surprises in recent Test cricket by defeating Australia by nine wickets in the Darwin Test. The victory marked Bangladesh’s first Test win on Australian soil in only their third attempt.

The result was even more remarkable because Bangladesh had not played a Test in Australia for 23 years. They had previously defeated Australia in a Test at home nine years ago, but this performance was far more dominant. Australia, the world’s No. 1 Test team, were completely outplayed as Bangladesh controlled key moments with both bat and ball. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
