King Khalid International Airport in
Riyadh will reopen Terminals 1 and 2 on Sunday. The move comes as Yemen's Houthi rebels claim to have targeted major Saudi airports and critical infrastructure.
Airport authorities have urged passengers to check their flight status with their airlines before leaving for the airport. The security situation in the region remains uncertain.
In an update on X, the airport administration said Terminal 1 would handle domestic flights. Terminal 2 would serve international flights operated by Saudi national carriers. These arrangements will take effect on Sunday.
"We kindly advise passengers with confirmed bookings to contact their airlines to verify the status of their bookings and flights before heading to the airport. We appreciate your cooperation and compliance with the instructions," the airport said.
Houthis Claim Attacks on Saudi Airports and Energy Sites
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed that the group had targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. He also alleged attacks on energy installations, refineries, aviation facilities and military sites across Saudi Arabia.
Saree named locations in Riyadh, Yanbu, Dammam, Rabigh and other areas.
"We targeted King Khalid Airport in Riyadh and Aramco Company in Yanbu," he said. He also claimed that the Houthis had targeted the Rabigh refinery and Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline.
"We targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Najran Airport, and Khamis Mushait Airbase," Saree added. The group also warned airlines, airport workers and travellers against using King Khalid International Airport. It described the facility as a "military target".
The claims have not been independently verified based on the information available. They have raised fresh concerns about aviation safety and travel across Saudi Arabia.
Air India Suspends Flights to Saudi Arabia
Air India and Air India Express have suspended flights to several major Saudi destinations. Both airlines cited the changing security situation in the region.
According to their advisory, flights to and from Riyadh and Dammam will remain suspended until November 7. Services to and from Jeddah will remain suspended until October 31.
The airlines have offered affected passengers complimentary rebooking or full refunds. Passengers should contact their airlines directly for the latest flight updates. They should also confirm their bookings before travelling to the airport.
Travellers Urged to Check Flight Updates
The planned reopening of Terminals 1 and 2 comes amid growing uncertainty over regional security. However, the reopening does not mean that all flights will resume.
Passengers should check both terminal arrangements and individual flight schedules before travelling. They should follow official updates from airport authorities and airlines.
Airlines may revise their schedules as the situation develops. Travellers should confirm their flight status before leaving home to avoid unnecessary delays and disruptions.
