Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC shared the points after a goalless draw, with missed penalty opportunities, two shots hitting the crossbar and brilliant goalkeeping highlighting an intense ISL encounter.
Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC shared the points after playing out a 0-0 draw in an entertaining MG Indian Super League 2026-27 encounter at the Marina Arena on Saturday. Chennaiyin made their first home appearance of the season, but neither side managed to find the back of the net despite creating several promising chances. Adrian Luna came close to giving Kerala Blasters the lead in the 49th minute, but his penalty struck the woodwork. Chennaiyin also suffered a similar disappointment when Irfan Yadwad hit the top-right corner of the crossbar with his effort in the 69th minute. Meanwhile, Kerala goalkeeper Amrinder Singh delivered an outstanding performance, making several important saves, including a crucial one-on-one stop late in the match.

Both Teams Begin with High Intensity

The match began at a fast pace, with both sides applying pressure and competing aggressively for possession. Chennaiyin and Kerala Blasters looked to move forward quickly and create opportunities through counter-attacks and attacking runs into the final third. Chennaiyin created the first clear opportunity in the 31st minute. Madih Talal cleverly allowed the ball to run past him before cutting inside and attempting a curling shot with his right foot. However, Amrinder Singh reacted quickly and pushed the effort away. The hosts threatened again four minutes later. Ramon Tanque delivered a pass to Irfan Yadwad inside the penalty area, allowing the forward to unleash a powerful shot from the right. Amrinder once again showed excellent reflexes to deny Chennaiyin and maintain the deadlock. Kerala Blasters struggled to contain Chennaiyin's quick attacking moves during this period. The visitors attempted to respond with crosses into the penalty area and occasional counter-attacks. However, Chennaiyin's defensive unit remained organised and cleared the danger. Despite Chennaiyin's attacking pressure, neither team could break the deadlock before half-time. Both sides went into the interval with the score at 0-0.

Luna Misses Penalty as Kerala Blasters Push Forward

Kerala Blasters started the second half with greater attacking intent. They also made their first substitution at half-time, bringing on Sumit Singh in place of Hormipam Ruivah in the 46th minute. The visitors soon received a golden opportunity to take the lead. Adrian Luna delivered a cross towards Mohammad Sanan, who went down after a challenge from Irfan Yadwad. During the incident, the ball struck Yadwad's arm as he attempted to protest his innocence. The referee immediately awarded Kerala Blasters a penalty. Luna took responsibility and stepped up to take the spot-kick. He briefly paused before his run-up and sent the goalkeeper in the opposite direction. However, his attempt struck the woodwork and bounced away, allowing Chennaiyin to escape without conceding. Kerala continued to attack and created another opportunity in the 54th minute. Andre Green collected a through ball during a quick counter-attack and fired a powerful left-footed shot across goal. Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz produced an important save to keep the score level. The contest became increasingly physical as both teams fought for control. Players from both sides were involved in several heated exchanges as the intensity continued to rise.

Yadwad Hits the Crossbar for Chennaiyin

Chennaiyin made two substitutions around the hour mark in an attempt to strengthen their attacking options. Lalhriatpuia Chawnghtu replaced Ayush Chhetri, while S Prakadeswaran came on for Brison Fernandes. Yadwad almost broke the deadlock in the 69th minute with an excellent individual effort. The Chennaiyin forward attempted to guide a right-footed shot across Amrinder Singh, but the ball struck the top-right corner of the crossbar and went out of play. Kerala Blasters also made attacking changes in the 77th minute. Vibin Mohanan replaced Korou Singh, while MS Sreekuttan came on for Mohammad Sanan. Five minutes later, Luna made way for Momo Yansane as the visitors looked for a late winner. Both teams continued to push forward during the closing stages. Chennaiyin also made two substitutions in the 87th minute, with Bryce Miranda and Dippendu Biswas replacing Ramon Tanque and Bhutia.

Amrinder Denies Chennaiyin a Late Winner

Chennaiyin came extremely close to snatching all three points in the 89th minute. The hosts intercepted a Kerala Blasters set-piece routine and quickly launched a counter-attack. Bryce Miranda played a through ball towards Irfan Yadwad, who attempted to beat Amrinder Singh with a chip. However, the Kerala goalkeeper reacted brilliantly and produced another crucial save to prevent a late goal. The match witnessed further drama in stoppage time. A physical altercation broke out in the second minute of added time, resulting in Andre Green and Imanishimwe receiving their marching orders. That incident proved to be the final major action of the evening as the referee brought the high-intensity contest to an end. Both Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC had opportunities to secure victory, but missed chances, outstanding goalkeeping and two efforts against the woodwork ensured that the match finished 0-0. The teams ultimately had to settle for a point each after an entertaining battle at the Marina Arena.
