NATO Chief Warns India, China, Brazil of Harsh Sanctions Over Russia Ties
NATO’s Mark Rutte warned India, China, and Brazil of strict US sanctions if they continue trade with Russia amid Trump’s new 50-day ultimatum for a peace deal.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte issued a direct warning on Wednesday. He said India, China, and Brazil could face serious secondary sanctions if they keep trading with Russia. His statement followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of fresh weapons aid for Ukraine and a 100% tariff threat on countries buying Russian goods.

Rutte Urges Nations to Act Fast

Speaking to reporters after meeting US senators, Rutte asked these countries to rethink their Russia ties. He said, “My encouragement to these three countries, particularly is, if you live now in Beijing, or in Delhi, or you are the president of Brazil, you might want to take a look into this, because this might hit you very hard."

He then advised leaders to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin without delay. “So please make the phone call to Vladimir Putin and tell him that he has to get serious about peace talks, because otherwise this will slam back on Brazil, on India and on China in a massive way," he warned.

Earlier, Rutte met President Trump and backed the new US trade measures.

Trump’s 50-Day Ultimatum Sparks Concerns

President Trump has given Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to peace. If Russia refuses, he plans to impose 100% tariffs on countries continuing trade with Moscow. However, this deadline raised fears in Washington.

US Senator Thom Tillis backed Trump’s firm approach but expressed concern. He said, “Putin would try to use the 50 days to win the war, or to be better positioned to negotiate a peace agreement after having murdered and potentially collected more ground as a basis for negotiation."

Tillis added that any land Russia captures in the next 50 days should not count in future talks. “So we should look at the current state of Ukraine today and say, no matter what you do over the next 50 days, any of your gains are off the table," he stated.

Europe Pledges Fresh Help for Ukraine

Meanwhile, Rutte confirmed that Europe would provide financial aid to Ukraine. He explained that this support aims to strengthen Ukraine’s position before any peace talks.

He also said that the US, under Trump’s plan, will now “massively" supply Ukraine with weapons. “Not just air defense, also missiles, also ammunition paid for by the Europeans," he clarified.

Missile Supplies Under Review

When asked about long-range missiles, Rutte said both defensive and offensive weapons would be included. “It is both defensive and offensive. So there’s all kinds of weapons, but we have not discussed in detail yesterday with the president," he noted.

He explained that the Pentagon and NATO commanders are finalizing the specifics with Ukraine.

Warning to India, China, Brazil Remains Clear

In conclusion, Rutte repeated his warning. If India, China, and Brazil do not act now to push Russia toward peace talks, they could face heavy US sanctions. Meanwhile, Europe and the US are preparing Ukraine for a long fight.
