Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) 'Jhaadu' (broom symbol) would remove the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly election. Speaking at a rally with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Yadav urged voters to support AAP on February 5. He emphasized that voting for AAP was the best way to defeat the BJP. The election results will be declared on February 8.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Appeal to Voters
Addressing a crowd in Delhi’s Kirari, Yadav stressed AAP’s ability to counter the BJP. "Their (AAP's) party symbol 'Jhaadu' is going to sweep off BJP's dishonesty. I want to appeal to people to vote in favour of 'Jhaadu' and against BJP. To make BJP lose, everyone should vote for the AAP," he said.
Furthermore, he urged voters to unite against the BJP. "I appeal to people to come together to defeat the BJP. Your vote should not be wasted. To defeat the BJP, every vote should go to AAP," he added.
Although he supported AAP, Yadav did not mention Congress, a key ally in the INDIA bloc, which is also contesting in Delhi.
Kejriwal Criticizes BJP and Congress
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP and Congress of working together to remove AAP from power. Speaking at the Kirari rally, he warned that voting for either party would have the same result.
Additionally, Kejriwal highlighted AAP’s achievements in education, healthcare, and subsidies on electricity and water. "Do you want to lose these schemes? Even BJP leaders are saying now that they will not shut any of AAP's schemes. They are scared of these schemes," he told the crowd.
He further claimed BJP and Congress were secretly working together. "This time, there is 'ilu ilu' between the BJP and Congress, and they are fighting these elections together. Voting for Congress means voting for BJP. Do not press the wrong button, otherwise, life will be miserable," he asserted.
Kejriwal Highlights Welfare Schemes
Moreover, Kejriwal pointed out his government’s welfare programs, including free water, healthcare, and bus rides for women. He said these schemes help families save over ₹25,000 annually. However, he warned that the BJP would discontinue them if it came to power.
Despite Congress being part of the INDIA bloc, key parties—including the Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction)—have backed AAP instead of Congress in Delhi.
Finally, in the Kirari constituency, AAP’s Anil Jha will compete against BJP’s Bajrang Shukla and Congress’s Rajesh Gupta.
