President Donald Trump announced that Sergio Gor, a senior White House official and longtime ally, will serve as the next United States Ambassador to India on Friday, August 22. Gor will also act as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
Trump introduced Gor as a “great friend” and one of the most influential figures in his administration. The timing of this decision is important, as Washington’s relations with New Delhi face new strains. Trump recently imposed 25 percent reciprocal tariffs on India and added another 25 percent penalty linked to India’s trade ties with Russia.
Trump Praises Gor’s Role in His Administration
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India, and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across every Department of our Federal Government in RECORD time — Our Departments and Agencies are over 95% filled!”
Gor currently heads the White House Presidential Personnel Office. Trump said he will continue in that role until the Senate confirms his new posting.
The president credited Gor with shaping his political career. He highlighted Gor’s work on his presidential campaigns, publishing his best-selling books, and running a pro-Trump super PAC.
Trump added, “For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. Congratulations Sergio!”
Who is Sergio Gor?
Sergio Gor was born Sergio Gorokhovsky on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He later moved to the United States and studied at George Washington University. During his college years, he was active in the College Republicans.
He began his political career as a spokesman for several Republican lawmakers, including Michele Bachmann, Steve King, and Randy Forbes. By 2013, he became communications director for Senator Rand Paul’s PAC, RANDPAC, and continued working closely with the Kentucky senator.
Gor later entered publishing. In 2021, he co-founded Winning Team Publishing, a conservative publishing company. The firm released multiple Trump-related books, including Letters to Trump, Our Journey Together, and Save America. He also reportedly led Right for America, a pro-Trump political action committee.
In November 2024, Trump appointed Gor as director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office. He is expected to leave that position once his ambassadorial nomination is confirmed.
