Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, has shared a new update on the actor’s health. She appeared on the ABC special Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey on August 26. She revealed that Willis is losing his ability to communicate two and a half years after his frontotemporal dementia (FTD) diagnosis.
His Health Condition
Emma said her husband “is in really great health overall,” but his brain “is failing him.” She explained that the family has learned to adapt. They still manage to communicate with him in other ways.
Her Wish to Talk With Bruce
In a conversation with Diane Sawyer, Emma was asked what she would like to talk about with Willis. She said she would simply ask if he was okay and if they could “support him better.”
“I would really love to know that. If he's scared. If he's ever worried,” Emma said. “I just would love to be able to just to have a conversation with him.”
Their Family Life
Bruce and Emma got married in 2009. Earlier, Willis was married to actor Demi Moore. He shares three daughters with her—Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31. With Emma, he has two daughters—Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.
Her Caregiving Journey
Emma also spoke about her role as a caregiver. She said the family moved Willis into a new home to make life easier for him. The place is “safe, quiet and easier for him to navigate.” Professional caregivers now help him every day.
She admitted this was “one of the hardest decisions” she has made. But she added that it was necessary for his comfort and well-being.
