Carlos Alcaraz climbed back to the top of the ATP rankings for the first time since 2023 with a thrilling US Open 2025 final win over Jannik Sinner. Playing at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, the 22-year-old Spaniard produced a dominant 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory, overtaking Sinner to claim the PIF ATP No. 1 spot.
With this result, Alcaraz now leads his rivalry with Sinner 10-5. The two have faced each other in several high-stakes matches this season. Sinner had beaten Alcaraz earlier in the year at Wimbledon 2025, while Alcaraz defeated him in the French Open 2025 final.
Chasing His Goal to Be the Best
Alcaraz said reclaiming the No. 1 ranking was one of his biggest targets this season. “Since I got the chance to recover the No. 1, it was one of the first goals that I had during the season, just to try to recover the No. 1 as soon as possible or end the year as the No. 1,” he said.
He added, “For me, achieving that once again, it is a dream. Doing [it] on the same day as getting another Grand Slam feels even better. It’s everything I’m working for, and I’m really happy to be able to live these experiences.”
Sixth Grand Slam and Second US Open Title
This victory marked Alcaraz’s sixth Grand Slam title and his second US Open crown. Among active players, only Novak Djokovic, with 24 majors, has won more.
Alcaraz has now captured the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, leaving just the Australian Open to complete a Career Grand Slam. He made it clear that this is his next major target.
“It’s my first goal, to be honest,” Alcaraz said. “When I just go to the preseason to [see] what I want to improve, what I want to achieve, the Australian Open is there. It’s the first or second tournament of the year, and it is always the main goal for me to complete a Career Grand Slam, Calendar Grand Slam. So it’s going to be great.”
Alcaraz Dominates US Open 2025
Alcaraz’s performance in New York was near flawless. He dropped only one set, which came against Sinner in the final, and lost serve just three times throughout the tournament.
Reflecting on his run, he called it the best tournament of his career so far. “I feel like this is the best tournament. Since the first rounds to the end of the tournament, the best tournament so far that I have ever played,” he said.
“The consistency of my level during the whole tournament has been really, really high, which I’m really proud of, because it’s something that I’ve been working on, to be really consistent.”
Tennis Legends Celebrate Alcaraz
Tennis greats quickly congratulated Alcaraz after his historic win. Rafael Nadal, his fellow Spaniard, was among the first to applaud him.
“Congratulations @carlosalcaraz! Champion again 🏆 of the @usopen and number 1! Congratulations on all the work behind this great season,” Nadal wrote on X.

Looking Ahead to the ATP Finals
After an incredible season, Alcaraz now sets his sights on another milestone — winning his first ATP Finals title before the year ends. If successful, it would be the perfect cap to a season that already includes two Grand Slam victories and a return to the world No. 1 ranking.
