Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday voiced serious concern over the escalating violence in Nepal. He described the crisis as “heart-rending” and urged citizens across the border to support peace.
Speaking after chairing a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting in New Delhi, PM Modi said the panel discussed the latest developments in Nepal. The meeting took place soon after his return from flood-affected Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. “On my return from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security discussed the developments in Nepal. The violence in Nepal is heart-rending. I am anguished that many young people have lost their lives. The stability, peace and prosperity of Nepal are of utmost importance to us. I humbly appeal to all my brothers and sisters in Nepal to support peace,” Modi said in a post on X. At least 19 people have died in clashes with security forces during the two-day unrest.

Political Crisis Deepens After PM Oli Resigns
Nepal’s political turmoil worsened on Tuesday after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stepped down amid massive protests.
The unrest began when the government announced a ban on social media platforms. Anger quickly spread, with demonstrators storming several government buildings. Protesters set fire to Parliament and the homes of top political leaders, pushing the crisis to its peak.
Initially focused on opposing internet restrictions, the protests have now become a full-scale uprising. Many citizens, especially young people, are voicing frustration over alleged corruption, poor governance, and a growing disconnect between leaders and ordinary citizens.
The protest movement, largely driven by students under the banner of “Gen Z,” has gained widespread support across the country.
PM Modi Reviews Flood Situation in India
Before addressing the crisis in Nepal, PM Modi visited flood-hit regions in India. Earlier in the day, he conducted aerial surveys of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to assess the damage caused by recent floods and reviewed ongoing rescue efforts.
Following the surveys, Modi announced major financial assistance for the two states. Himachal Pradesh will receive ₹1,500 crore, while Punjab will get ₹1,600 crore to support relief and rehabilitation work.
Nepal’s Future Uncertain Amid Rising Violence
The resignation of PM Oli and the growing strength of the Gen Z movement have thrown Nepal into deep uncertainty. With Parliament and other key government buildings damaged, the country now faces questions about its stability and governance.
India, which shares close historical, cultural, and economic ties with Nepal, has expressed strong support for peace and order. PM Modi’s appeal highlights New Delhi’s concern about the impact of Nepal’s turmoil on regional stability.
