Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are teaming up to deliver a gripping psychological thriller, The Housemaid. The film promises to take audiences on a chilling ride filled with secrets, scandal, and power struggles.
A Strong Onscreen Partnership
Director Paul Feig, known for his work on A Simple Favor, praised the chemistry between Sweeney and Seyfried. He described their connection as "simply through the roof." Speaking to People, Feig said, “They are both such powerful talents and work so well off each other that you very quickly get sucked into their onscreen world.”
The Story of Millie and the Winchesters
Sweeney plays Millie, a young woman eager to escape her troubled past. Determined to start over, she accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family. Seyfried stars as Nina Winchester, while Brandon Sklenar, known for his role in It Ends With Us, plays her husband, Andrew.
At first, the Winchesters seem like the perfect employers. However, Millie soon discovers disturbing truths hidden behind the luxurious walls of their home. According to the film’s logline, viewers can expect “a seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power” that unfolds as Millie becomes entangled in the family’s dark world.
A Strong Supporting Cast
The film also features Michele Morrone as Enzo, the mysterious groundskeeper, and Elizabeth Perkins as Andrew’s demanding and sharp-tongued mother. Their roles add depth to the tense dynamics within the household.
Faithful Adaptation with Surprises
The movie is based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, which captivated readers worldwide. The screenplay, written by Rebecca Sonnenshine, stays true to the essence of the book while introducing fresh twists.
Feig hinted at these changes but kept the details secret. “It’s a faithful interpretation of Freida’s book, but with a good number of added surprises along the way,” he said. “And no, I’m not teasing any of the surprises. They must be seen to be believed.”
