India strongly condemned Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday. During his address, Sharif repeated Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir. He also accused India of violating the Indus Waters Treaty, which was signed in 1960, by suspending it earlier this year.
India Hits Back with Strong Reply
Hours later, India used its right to reply to counter Sharif’s claims. Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot delivered a strong statement, accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorism and spreading lies on the global stage.
“Mr President, this assembly witnessed absurd theatrics in the morning from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who once again glorified terrorism that is so central to their foreign policy. However, no degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts,” Gahlot said.

Pakistan Shielded Terror Group
Gahlot reminded UN members of Pakistan’s role in shielding terrorist groups. She highlighted Pakistan’s actions after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, where 26 people were killed.
“This is the very same Pakistan which, at the UN Security Council on 25th April 2025, shielded the resistance front, a Pakistani-sponsored terror outfit, from the responsibility of carrying out the barbaric massacre of tourists in the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said. According to Gahlot, this showed how Pakistan protects groups involved in cross-border terrorism, while publicly denying it.
Pakistan’s History of Harboring Extremists
The Indian diplomat also pointed to Pakistan’s long record of harboring terrorists. She recalled how Osama bin Laden, one of the world’s most wanted terrorists, lived in Pakistan for years before being killed by U.S. forces.
“Mr President, a country long steeped in the tradition of deploying and exporting terrorism has no shame in advancing the most ludicrous narratives to that end. Let us recall that it sheltered Osama bin Laden for a decade, even while pretending to partner in the war against terrorism, its ministers have just recently acknowledged that they have been operating terrorist camps for decades. It should come as no surprise that once again this duplicity continues, this time at the level of its Prime Minister,” Gahlot said.
Sharif’s Statement on Kashmir
In his UN speech, Sharif expressed support for the people of Kashmir. “I wish to assure Kashmiri people that I stand with them, Pakistan stands with them, and one day soon India’s tyranny in Kashmir will come to a halt,” Sharif declared. India dismissed these remarks, saying Sharif was trying to divert global attention from Pakistan’s role in funding and supporting terrorism.
Indus Waters Treaty Dispute
Sharif also accused India of breaching international law by suspending its participation in the Indus Waters Treaty. India had suspended the treaty soon after the Pahalgam attack, linking the attack to Pakistan-based groups. At that time, India declared, “blood and water cannot flow together.” New Delhi said the treaty could only be reinstated once Pakistan took verifiable steps to stop cross-border terrorism.
India’s firm response at the UN highlighted Pakistan’s record of harboring terrorists and its attempts to shield terror groups from accountability. It also showed how Pakistan uses international platforms to deflect blame and repeat false claims about Kashmir and other issues.
