Cameras Capture Rohit’s Joy as Kohli Rewrites History
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma proved their strong bond on the field as they celebrated historic records and silenced all talk of a rift during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi.

There was a time when people talked about tension between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Many speculated about problems between the two senior players. However, Kohli always denied these claims. Even if there was any past discomfort, it no longer exists. Both players clearly support and respect each other.

Given their current roles in Indian cricket, very few people are happier for each other than Ro-Ko. That bond was clearly visible when Kohli reached a historic milestone in Ranchi.

Rohit’s reaction when Kohli hit his 52nd ODI hundred

During the first ODI between India and South Africa at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, Kohli reached his 52nd ODI century by hitting Marco Jansen for a boundary. As soon as he got there, the camera focused on Rohit in the dressing room.

Rohit looked extremely excited and could not hide his emotions. He kept clapping and appeared to mouth a few words in pure joy as Kohli soaked in the cheers from the crowd. Their partnership in that match was worth 136 runs, marking their 20th century-plus partnership in ODIs.

With this hundred, Kohli also achieved another milestone. He now holds the record for the most centuries by a batter in a single format, moving ahead of Sachin Tendulkar’s 51 Test centuries.

Rohit also creates history with his bat

Rohit had his own achievements to celebrate in the same match. He played a strong innings and scored 57 runs. Although his stay at the crease was brief, it was impactful.

During this knock, Rohit smashed the 352nd six of his ODI career, which helped him break Shahid Afridi’s record for most sixes in One Day International cricket. This was his third fifty-plus score in just four innings. He was also close to scoring back-to-back centuries, but a low delivery from Marco Jansen ended his innings.

Uncertainty around their future in ODIs

There has been a lot of discussion about Rohit and Kohli’s future in international cricket, especially with the 2027 World Cup in mind. Both players have already retired from T20 Internationals and Tests, which means the ODI format is now their only platform in international cricket.

While they are determined to continue and make it to South Africa in 22 months, selectors may think differently because of their age. Still, as long as they continue performing and scoring runs, it will be extremely hard to leave them out of the team.

For now, their bat continues to do all the talking.
