Technical Snag in Chennai Metro Service Strands Commuters Inside Tunnel
A technical fault forced a Chennai Metro train to stop inside a tunnel, briefly trapping passengers before officials safely evacuated them and restored normal service.

A Chennai Metro train stopped suddenly on Tuesday morning due to a technical failure. The train was moving between the High Court Station and Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station when the problem occurred. Passengers remained inside the coach for some time. Viral videos later showed them waiting in a dark tunnel, which looked like a power disruption.

The Chennai Metro Rail issued an official statement soon after. It confirmed that the train had halted because of a "technical issue". Officials quickly began evacuation. They guided all passengers to safety and then removed the faulty train from the track. Services resumed at 06.20 AM.

Passengers Evacuated and Services Restored

Metro staff responded fast to avoid panic. They ensured that commuters reached the station safely. After clearing the track, they restarted normal operations. No injuries were reported.

This incident caused brief panic among travellers, especially early-morning office-goers. However, normal movement resumed soon after the evacuation was completed.

Similar Disruptions in Other Metro Cities

The Chennai incident came weeks after problems were reported on Bengaluru’s Namma Metro. Trains on the Yellow Line faced delays during peak hours. Office workers and students suffered the most. Despite the inconvenience, officials restored normal services within a short time.

Earlier, the Mumbai Metro’s Line 1 also faced disruptions. Services on the Versova-Ghatkopar corridor stopped for more than 30 minutes. Mumbai Metro One Private Limited said a technical snag in one train caused the interruption.

In August, Delhi Metro also faced trouble on the Yellow Line. Trains slowed down, which led to overcrowded coaches and packed platforms at several stations on the route.

These repeated technical faults across major cities have raised concerns about maintenance and passenger safety during rush hours.
