First Full Bilateral Visit in 37 Years
This is the first full bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Jordan in 37 years. The visit coincides with 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
PM Modi had earlier transited through Jordan in 2018 while travelling to Palestine. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that the current visit reflects renewed momentum in ties after a long gap.
Focus on Trade, Technology, and People-to-People Ties
PM Modi said he was confident that the meeting would give new strength and direction to India-Jordan relations.
“We will continue our cooperation in areas such as trade, fertilisers, digital technology, infrastructure and people-to-people ties,” he said.
He added that the visit would boost bilateral linkages and open new avenues of cooperation.
Shared Stand Against Terrorism
PM Modi said India and Jordan share a clear and common stand against terrorism. He praised King Abdullah II for his leadership, especially on regional issues like Gaza.
“We hope that peace and stability will prevail in the region. We share a common and clear stance against terrorism. Under your leadership, Jordan has sent a strong and strategic message to the world against terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation,” he said.
PM Modi Thanks King Abdullah II
The Prime Minister thanked the Jordanian King for the warm welcome and his commitment to stronger ties with India.
“You have shared very positive ideas for taking India-Jordan relations to new heights. I sincerely thank you for your friendship and your deep commitment to India. This year, we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. This milestone will continue to inspire us to move forward with renewed energy for many years to come,” he said.
Recalling Past Engagements
PM Modi recalled earlier meetings with King Abdullah II. He mentioned their interaction during the King’s India visit in 2018, when both leaders attended a conference on Islamic heritage.
“Your efforts to promote moderation are extremely important not only for regional peace but also for global peace,” PM Modi said.
He also recalled their first meeting in 2015 on the sidelines of the United Nations. “I recall that our first meeting also took place on the sidelines of the U.N. in 2015, at an event focused on countering violent extremism. Even then, you delivered inspirational remarks on this subject,” he added.
King Abdullah II Welcomes PM Modi
King Abdullah II said all Jordanians welcomed the Indian Prime Minister.“Your presence here carries deep significance as our countries mark 75 years of diplomatic relations. I believe this visit reflects decades of friendship, mutual respect and productive cooperation between our two nations,” he said.
He highlighted growing cooperation between the two countries and stressed the importance of expanding economic ties.
“Our nations enjoy a strong partnership, and they share a desire to advance prosperity for our people,” the King said.

More than 17,500 Indians live and work in Jordan across sectors such as textiles, construction, and manufacturing.

Upcoming Engagements
Later on Monday, PM Modi and King Abdullah II will hold one-on-one talks followed by delegation-level discussions. On Tuesday, they will jointly address an India-Jordan business event with leading entrepreneurs from both sides.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Petra with the Crown Prince, subject to weather conditions.
