Denmark’s PM Frederiksen Warns US is Still Interested in Greenland
Denmark’s Prime Minister warned that US interest in Greenland is still active and stressed that the territory is not for sale.

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said that the United States is still interested in taking control of Greenland. She warned that Donald Trump remains serious about the Arctic territory and that the matter has not ended.

Greenland not for sale

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference 2026, Frederiksen said Trump’s interest in controlling Greenland seems unchanged. She clearly repeated that the territory cannot be bought.

Frederiksen said the issue is about “one of the most basic democratic principles” — respect for sovereignty and self-determination. She also noted that the people of Greenland have already made their position clear. They do not want to become part of another country.

US push linked to security concerns

Earlier this year, Trump suggested that the US should acquire Greenland. He described it as very important for national security. However, Danish leaders strongly rejected the idea and maintained that the territory is not for sale.

Frederiksen spoke after Trump shared posts again suggesting that Greenland could one day become a US territory. He pointed to security risks in the Arctic and said the region is important because of rising global competition. He also argued that Denmark may not be able to fully protect the area from major powers such as Russia and China.

UK calls for stability in the Arctic

Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, also spoke at the same conference. He said that security in the Arctic is important for all countries. He described recent diplomatic developments as “quite instructive” and stressed the need for a practical approach based on respect for sovereignty.
