Iran’s top military leadership has firmly rejected the 48-hour ultimatum issued by US President Donald Trump, calling it weak and misguided. Trump had warned that Tehran must either agree to a peace deal or reopen the important Strait of Hormuz within two days, or face serious consequences, including possible military action.
Instead of complying, Iran responded strongly and dismissed the warning.
Strong Reaction from Military Leadership
In an official statement released by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, senior military officials criticised Trump’s remarks.
General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi described the ultimatum as “a helpless, nervous, unbalanced and stupid action.” His statement showed Iran’s unwillingness to accept pressure from the United States.
‘The Gates of Hell Will Open’
Using similar strong language, the Iranian general responded directly to Trump’s threat. He said, “the simple meaning of this message is that the gates of hell will open for you.”
This warning mirrored Trump’s earlier remarks about severe consequences if Iran failed to act.
Trump Repeats Warning on Social Media
Trump had earlier shared his ultimatum on Truth Social, stressing that time was running out.
“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign (sic) down on them. Glory be to GOD!”
Strait of Hormuz Becomes Key Flashpoint
The Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the conflict. It is one of the world’s most important routes for oil shipments, making it strategically vital.
Iran controls access to this waterway, while the US is demanding that it remain open. This has made the strait a major source of tension in the region.
Conflict Continues to Escalate
The situation comes amid an ongoing conflict that has lasted for months. It began with joint US-Israeli military operations and was followed by Iran’s counter-attacks.
The standoff has included missile and drone strikes, damage to infrastructure in nearby countries, and incidents involving downed aircraft. There is also an ongoing search for missing US military personnel within Iranian territory.
Iran Leaves Room for Diplomacy
Despite its strong rejection of the ultimatum, Iran has not completely ruled out talks.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi suggested that discussions with the US could take place through mediation by Pakistan. However, he did not indicate any willingness to accept the current US demands.
“We are deeply grateful to Pakistan for its efforts and have never refused to go to Islamabad. What we care about are the terms of a conclusive and lasting END to the illegal war that is imposed on us,” Araghchi wrote on X.
Rising Tensions with No Clear Resolution
With both sides issuing strong statements and no agreement in sight, tensions remain high. While there is still a possibility for dialogue, the situation could escalate further if neither side changes its position.
