Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) edged out Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a dramatic Super Over finish in the 38th match of IPL 2026 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
After being invited to bat, KKR managed 155/7 in 20 overs. Following early blows from Mohsin Khan (5/23 in 4 overs), Rinku Singh played a superb knock of 83 off 51 balls and remained unbeaten till the end. Cameron Green also contributed 34 runs.
In reply, LSG also scored 155/8 in 20 overs. Rishabh Pant was the top scorer for LSG. Vaibhav Arora (2/24 in 4 overs) was the most successful bowler for KKR, while Varun Chakravarthy also picked up two wickets.
In a dramatic Super Over, LSG managed just 1 run and lost 2 wickets. In response, Rinku Singh finished things with a boundary off the first ball from Prince Yadav. With this win, KKR maintained their momentum from the previous match, while LSG suffered their fifth consecutive defeat.
Mohsin’s early destruction shakes KKR
Earlier in the match, Mohsin Khan had put KKR under immense pressure with his maiden five-wicket haul in T20s. He struck early by dismissing Tim Seifert for a duck with a sharp delivery. It was Seifert’s second consecutive duck and Mohsin’s third wicket-maiden in this IPL season.
In his next over, Mohsin deceived Ajinkya Rahane with a slower ball. Rahane advanced down the pitch but mistimed his shot, offering a simple catch to Aiden Markram.
Raghuvanshi’s unusual dismissal
Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s innings ended in an unusual manner. After pushing the ball towards mid-on, he attempted a quick single but was sent back by Cameron Green. As Mohammed Shami aimed a direct throw at the striker’s end, Raghuvanshi changed direction and got hit by the ball while diving.
LSG appealed for obstructing the field, and the TV umpire ruled him out, stating the batter had “clearly changed his direction”. Raghuvanshi showed his frustration by arguing with the umpires and throwing his helmet as he walked off.
Mohsin continues his dominance
Mohsin returned to further damage KKR’s batting line-up. He dismissed Rovman Powell, who gloved a pull shot to Rishabh Pant. Cameron Green tried to counterattack with a few big hits, including two sixes off George Linde. However, he mistimed a pull shot against Mohsin, resulting in a catch behind the stumps.
Anukul Roy fell on the very next ball, giving Mohsin his fifth wicket. After completing his spell, Mohsin was replaced by Impact Player Himmat Singh, which meant he could not bowl in the Super Over later.
Rinku rescues KKR
KKR were in deep trouble at 73 for 6 after 11 overs, and the situation worsened to 93 for 7. Despite the collapse, Rinku Singh held his ground. He played cautiously at first, reaching 43 off 40 balls by the 18th over.
He then shifted gears. In the 19th over, he attacked Mohammed Shami with a sequence of 6, 4, 4. In the final over, he unleashed a flurry of sixes against Digvesh Rathi, lifting KKR past 150. His effort also allowed KKR to bring in Varun Chakravarthy as an Impact Player.
LSG struggle early in chase
LSG started their innings cautiously. Their regular opening pair of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram could not build momentum, as Marsh fell early for just 2 runs. Vaibhav Arora bowled an excellent spell in the powerplay, conceding only 13 runs in three overs.
LSG reached 37 for 1 at the end of the powerplay, and by the eighth over, the required run rate had climbed to nine runs per over.
Middle-order collapse and late fightback
LSG’s chase faltered as Markram and Rishabh Pant fell while trying to accelerate. Nicholas Pooran continued his poor form, getting out for 9 off 12 balls. Mukul Choudhary, who had earlier impressed against KKR this season, lasted just two deliveries this time.
At 93 for 5, LSG needed 63 runs from 28 balls and looked out of the contest. However, Himmat Singh and George Linde stitched together a fighting partnership to bring them closer.
In the end, Mohammed Shami’s last-ball six tied the scores and pushed the match into a Super Over. But KKR held their nerve in the decider and secured a thrilling victory.
Late drama forces Super Over
The turning point in this high-error game came in the final overs of both innings. After 19 overs, KKR were struggling at 129 for 7. However, Rinku Singh turned the game around in the last over by smashing Digvesh Rathi for four consecutive sixes. That 26-run over pushed KKR to 155 for 7. Rinku remained unbeaten on 83 off 51 balls, registering his highest score in T20 cricket.
During the chase, LSG needed 17 runs from the final over. Himmat Singh and Mohammed Shami were at the crease. Kartik Tyagi began poorly, bowling consecutive no-balls with beamers. Although he dismissed Himmat, he made another costly mistake by bowling a half-volley on the last ball when seven runs were required. Shami capitalised and hit it over long-off, tying the match and forcing a Super Over.
Super Over sealed by KKR
The Super Over turned out to be one-sided. Sunil Narine made an immediate impact by dismissing Nicholas Pooran on the very first ball. He then had Aiden Markram caught on the third delivery, with only a single coming in between.
Rinku again played a crucial role in the field. When Markram attempted a big hit towards long-on, Rovman Powell ran across, caught the ball near the boundary, and flicked it towards long-off, where Rinku completed the catch. This added to the four catches he had already taken earlier in the match.
When KKR came out to bat in the Super Over, Rinku wasted no time. He struck Prince Yadav’s first ball through cover-point for four, sealing a memorable win.
Super Over
Both KKR and LSG were struggling in almost every department. It was the contest between two struggling teams. The match kept swinging until the very end, with Rinku Singh emerging as the central figure with both bat and fielding contributions. Stay tuned with JUSZNEWS for regular updates!
