‘No Question of Resigning’: Mamata After TMC Defeat
Mamata Banerjee rejected calls to step down after TMC’s defeat, alleging unfair elections and vowing to fight back.

Mamata Banerjee has refused to step down following her party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief claimed the result was not a true reflection of public opinion but the outcome of a “conspiracy.”

Speaking at a press conference, she alleged that the elections were not conducted fairly. She accused the BJP of interference and claimed central forces were used to influence the voting process.

“No question of me resigning, we were defeated not by public mandate but by conspiracy,” said Mamata.

Allegations of unfair polling process

Mamata argued that the electoral process had been compromised. She claimed that force and pressure were used during polling, which affected the outcome.

Despite the loss, she expressed confidence in her party’s future. “We fought like tigers and will bounce back, but this government’s direct interference is deeply concerning,” said Mamata Banerjee after the assembly poll loss.

TMC plans action against Election Commission

The TMC leader also targeted the Election Commission of India (ECI). She said her party is preparing to take action against the poll body but did not reveal specific details.

“We are taking action, we will fight back. But the strategy is confidential. we are not going to disclose. Taking action against EC, yet to decide what action,” she said.

Claims of pressure on party workers

Mamata claimed that some TMC workers were joining the BJP due to fear and threats. She said she understands their situation and does not object if it ensures their safety.

“I don’t mind if, for their safety, my party’s workers join the BJP,” she said, pointing to alleged intimidation on the ground.

Thanks INDIA bloc leaders for support

She also acknowledged support from leaders of the opposition alliance. Mamata said she received calls from several senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Hemant Soren and Tejashwi Yadav.

“I am thankful to all INDIA bloc leaders. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Hemant Soren, Tejaswi Yadav and other leaders called me. Akhilesh will come to meet me tomorrow. Now my target is clear. I am a free bird. I had made it clear what will I do with other INDIA bloc leaders,” said Mamata.

Warns BJP over temporary power

Mamata also issued a warning to the BJP, saying political power does not last forever. She pointed to past governments to underline her point.

She said she had seen administrations led by Rajiv Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh, but claimed she had never witnessed such “atrocities.”

Political battle set to continue

Mamata made it clear that the defeat will not end TMC’s political fight. Instead, she signalled a continued challenge against the BJP and the institutions she accused of bias, setting the stage for a prolonged political confrontation in West Bengal.
