India on Sunday voiced serious concern over the drone strike near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and described the attack as “unacceptable.”
India warned that the incident marked a dangerous rise in regional tensions and urged all sides to avoid further escalation. In an official statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs called for restraint and stressed the need for diplomatic engagement.
"India is deeply concerned at the attack targeting the Barakah nuclear facility in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and represent a dangerous escalation. We urgently call for restraint and a return to dialogue and diplomacy," the MEA statement read, according to ANI.
Fire Reported Near Barakah Facility
The statement came after a drone strike caused a fire near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region. According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the fire broke out in an electrical generator located outside the plant’s inner security perimeter.
Authorities said the incident caused no injuries. Officials also confirmed that radiation levels remained normal and the plant’s nuclear safety systems were not affected.
International Community Reacts
The attack triggered strong reactions from several countries and international organisations. Saudi Arabia condemned the strike and described it as a major threat to regional stability.
Meanwhile, Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said any military activity that risks nuclear safety is unacceptable. The incident has raised fresh concerns about security around critical infrastructure in the Middle East amid growing regional tensions.
