ICC Champions Trophy 2025: New Zealand Crushes South Africa by 50 Runs, Sets Up Final with India
New Zealand secures a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy final with a commanding 50-run victory over South Africa.
New Zealand crushed South Africa by 50 runs to reach the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. Rachin Ravindra starred with a brilliant century and won the Player of the Match award.

Ravindra and Williamson Dominate with the Bat

New Zealand posted a massive 363-run target. Rachin Ravindra (108) and Kane Williamson (102) powered the innings with a 164-run stand for the second wicket. As a result, their explosive batting set the highest total of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Santner Leads a Strong Bowling Attack

Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner destroyed South Africa’s middle order with 3/43. In addition, Glenn Phillips (2/27) and Rachin Ravindra (1/20) provided solid support. Despite David Miller’s unbeaten 100, South Africa fell short, ending at 312/9. After the match, Santner praised the team’s spin depth. He said, “We got four all-rounders who bowl spin, that gives depth. GP’s two wickets and Rachin’s five overs were great.” Furthermore, he stressed the need to adapt to Dubai’s slower pitches for the final against India.

South Africa Falls Short in the Chase

On the other hand, Temba Bavuma (56) and Rassie van der Dussen (69) built a 105-run partnership. However, they failed to extend their stand. Bavuma admitted, “At 125 for 1, me and Rassie batting, we needed to bat till the 35th. But we weren’t able to set up the base for the middle order.” Consequently, David Miller fought hard, reaching his century in 67 balls. But by then, New Zealand had already sealed the match.

India Awaits in the Final

Looking ahead, New Zealand will battle India in Sunday’s final in Dubai. Notably, India remains unbeaten and has a strong spin attack. Earlier in the tournament, Indian spinners troubled New Zealand and defended a modest 249-run total. New Zealand now aims to repeat its 2000 Champions Trophy victory over India. Back then, Chris Cairns’ unbeaten century secured the win in Nairobi. Now, the Kiwis seek another historic triumph against a dominant Indian side.
