Jamshedpur FC defeated Mohun Bagan Super Giant 2-1 in the first leg of the Indian Super League 2024-25 semi-final on Thursday. The match was held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Although Jamshedpur had only 26.9% possession, they used their chances well. They scored two goals from four shots on target. Javi Hernandez netted the winner in injury time.
Jamshedpur Took the Lead
The match began with strong energy from both teams. In the 24th minute, Jamshedpur made their move. Stephen Eze headed the ball to Javi Siverio, who was close to goal. Siverio simply nodded it into the bottom right corner. Mohun Bagan’s defense couldn’t stop the play.
Mohun Bagan Responded
Soon after, Mohun Bagan showed their attacking intent. Greg Stewart found Alberto Rodriguez inside the box. Rodriguez’s shot hit the crossbar.
Later, in the 37th minute, Jason Cummings scored a brilliant equalizer. He took a left-footed free kick and curled it into the top right corner. It was a perfect strike.
After Halftime, Mohun Bagan Pushed Forward
In the second half, Mohun Bagan kept up the pressure. In the 51st minute, Anirudh Thapa passed to Stewart in the box. Stewart’s shot was weak and off target.
Next, in the 59th minute, Liston Colaco crossed the ball to Rodriguez. His header missed the goal. Then in the 71st minute, Colaco passed to Asish Rai, who took a shot from distance. However, the ball didn’t hit the target.
Jamshedpur Sealed the Win
Jamshedpur mostly defended in the second half. Still, they made one last push in injury time. After a quick counter-attack, they broke through Mohun Bagan’s defense.
Ritwik Das passed the ball to Javi Hernandez, who found space in the middle of the box. Hernandez smashed it into the center of the net, giving his team a crucial victory.

Javi Hernandez stood out. He completed 14 of 24 passes, made one cross, and had two interceptions. Most importantly, he scored the winning goal.
What’s Next?
Both teams will face each other again in the second leg on April 7 in Kolkata. Jamshedpur will try to defend their lead, while MBSG will aim for a comeback.
