The Pakistan Army has started shifting troops closer to the frontlines, raising fears of more conflict. Indian officials shared this update on Friday. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated, “Pakistani troops have been observed moving into forward areas, indicating their intent to further escalate the tensions.”
India on High Alert, Ready to Respond
India has placed its armed forces on full operational alert. According to Singh, “Indian armed forces remain in a high state of operational readiness, and all hostile actions have been effectively countered and responded proportionately.”
She further added, “Indian armed forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided the Pakistan side reciprocates.”
India Strikes Back After Missile Attacks
India launched attacks on Pakistani military bases after Islamabad fired several high-speed missiles at Indian air bases in Punjab. This marks a new level in the ongoing conflict that started after the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 people were killed.
Pakistan Claims Interceptions and Retaliation
Pakistan claimed it intercepted most of the Indian missiles. It also said that its forces had started retaliatory strikes.
At a Saturday news conference, Colonel Sofia Qureshi claimed that Pakistan had hit health facilities and schools located at three air bases in Indian-controlled Kashmir. She said, “Befitting reply has been given to Pakistani actions.”
Attacks on Military Sites and Civil Areas
Colonel Qureshi further explained the extent of the damage. She said the Pakistani Army kept attacking India's western borders using drones, long-range weapons, loitering munitions, and fighter jets.
She noted that Pakistan attempted air intrusions at over 26 locations, damaging Indian equipment and personnel at air force bases in Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda.
Moreover, she said, “They used high-speed missiles at 1:40 am to target Punjab’s air base. They even attacked health facilities and schools.”
India Calls Pakistan’s Actions Provocative
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned Pakistan's behavior. He said the actions were clear “provocation” and assured that India’s response was “measured.”
