Sabrina Carpenter Hits Back at Critics Over Bold Album Art and Lyrics
Sabrina Carpenter defended her bold artistic choices, saying critics are the same people who made her explicit songs popular.

Sabrina Carpenter recently responded to criticism about her bold performances and album artwork. In an interview, she pointed out that people who criticize her often enjoy the same content they complain about.

Sabrina, known for her hit Espresso, said the backlash usually comes from the audience that made her sexually charged songs go viral. She explained, “It’s always so funny to me when people complain. They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular. Clearly, you love sex. You’re obsessed with it. It’s in my show.”

Album cover sparks controversy

Her upcoming album Man’s Best Friend features a controversial cover. It shows Sabrina posed like a dog while someone pulls her hair. Many critics claimed she is catering to the male gaze. However, she strongly defended her choice and said the public attention proves the point. According to her, the same people criticizing her are also the ones who boosted her fame through those very performances.

Sabrina added that her shows include emotional ballads and deep songs. But audiences mostly share her bold performances. “There are so many more moments than the Juno positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can’t control that. If you come to the show, you’ll also hear the ballads, you’ll hear the more introspective numbers,” she said.

Female artists face more judgment

She also spoke about the pressure on female singers. Sabrina mentioned icons like Christina Aguilera and Rihanna who faced similar challenges. She explained how society still resists when women express their sexuality. This, she believes, reflects a deeper problem in the industry.

New album and single release

Meanwhile, Sabrina is ready to drop her seventh studio album Man’s Best Friend on August 29. It follows the success of Short n’ Sweet, which came out earlier in 2024. She already released the first single Manchild on June 5. The song mixes country-pop with a disco-synth sound.
