US President Donald Trump warned that countries in the BRICS group “have to pay 10 percent” if they stay in the alliance. He argued that BRICS was created “to hurt us” and “to degenerate our dollar.”
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump claimed he would match BRICS countries “if they want to play their game.” He added that he would “play their game too” by imposing a 10% charge on all members.
Trump specifically mentioned India, saying, “If they’re in BRICS, they’re gonna have to pay a 10 per cent tariff.” He made it clear that any BRICS country “is getting a 10 per cent charge.”
BRICS Wants to Replace the Dollar, Says Trump
According to Trump, BRICS aims to weaken the US dollar so another currency can take its place as the global standard. However, he dismissed the group’s power by saying, “We are not gonna lose the standard.”
He also warned that any attempt to challenge the dollar would come at a cost. “Countries trying to challenge the dollar,” he said, “are gonna have to pay a big price.” But Trump doubted they would go that far, adding, “I don’t think any of them is willing to pay that price.”
Trump Thinks BRICS Is Falling Apart
Trump claimed that BRICS has already started to collapse. He said, “I thought BRICS was, and I said it a year ago, that it largely broke up.” Although, he admitted “a couple of them are still hanging around.”
Dollar Must Be Protected, Says Trump
Trump emphasized that the US needs strong leadership to protect the dollar’s global status. He warned that under poor leadership, America could lose its place as the world’s top currency issuer.
“If you have a smart president,” he said, “you’ll never lose the standard.” But he sharply criticized President Biden, saying, “If you have a stupid president like the last one, you would lose it.”
Trump went on to say that losing the dollar’s global role “would be like losing a major world war.” He added, “We would not be the same country,” and repeated, “The dollar is king. We’re gonna keep it that way.”
