Mahayuti’s Landslide Victory Stunned the Opposition
Maharashtra saw an enthusiastic voter turnout in the 2024 elections, the highest in three decades. The results brought the Mahayuti alliance (BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP) to power with a strong majority.

Mahayuti’s Landslide Victory

The Mahayuti comfortably crossed the 145-seat majority mark, consolidating power after a period of political turmoil. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis said discussions would decide the next chief minister.

Aaditya Thackeray Questions the Results

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray expressed disappointment, saying the results did not match their expectations.
“How this result came is under question,” he said. Thackeray also referred to BJP leader JP Nadda’s earlier statement about a "one-party nation," suggesting the results align with that vision.

Scams Stir Controversy During Elections

The elections, while mostly peaceful, were marked by controversies. A bitcoin scam linked to Congress leader Mr. Patole and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule sparked debate. BJP’s Vinod Tawde also faced allegations of a ₹5 crore cash-for-votes scam.

Shinde Credits Victory to Welfare Policies

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde credited the Mahayuti’s win to its focus on policies benefiting women, farmers, the unemployed, and the poor.
“They alleged we are buying leaders, they even went to court, but failed,” Shinde said.
He highlighted a balance between development and welfare, claiming voters rejected politics of hatred and revenge. Shinde also said the results clarified the identities of the real Shiv Sena and NCP.
