The government of Chad insists the capital, N'Djamena, is stable after gunshots rang out near the presidential palace. Despite the alarming sounds, officials maintain control.

Foreign Minister Addresses Incident

Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah recorded a video inside the palace, calling the event a "little incident" and assuring that "everything is calm." Meanwhile, sources close to the government confirmed the situation had been contained.

Clashes with Terrorist Elements

According to government sources, security forces clashed with "terrorist elements." Consequently, AFP reported that Koulamallah confirmed 18 attackers and one security officer had died in the skirmish.

Increased Security Measures

As a result of the incident, tanks appeared in the area, and authorities promptly closed all roads leading to the palace, AFP noted. This action aimed to prevent further disturbances.

Koulamallah Urges Calm

In a Facebook video, Koulamallah, surrounded by soldiers, declared, "Nothing serious has happened. We are here and we will defend our country at the price of our blood. Be calm." Thus, he assured the public that the attempt to destabilize the government had been thwarted.

Attack Details Revealed

AFP further quoted Koulamallah, who revealed that a 24-man commando unit launched the assault. Additionally, he noted that six attackers and three government forces were injured.

Incident Follows High-Level Visit

Interestingly, the incident occurred just hours after China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, visited Chad. During his visit, he met with President Mahamat Déby and other senior officials, indicating the timing of the attack may hold significance.
