Tamil Nadu Dragons secured a 3-2 victory over Delhi SG Pipers in the
Men’s Hero Hockey India League 2024-25 at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium on Monday. Goalkeeper David Harte played a key role in the Dragons' defense. Jip Janssen (6'), Nathan Ephraums (19'), and Blake Govers (21') scored for the Dragons, while Tomas Domene (2', 37') was the only scorer for the Pipers.
Pipers Strike First
The match began with a strong start for the Pipers. In the 2nd minute, Tomas Domene scored a powerful penalty corner past David Harte, giving the Pipers an early 1-0 lead. However, just four minutes later, the Pipers made a defensive error. This allowed the Dragons to win a penalty corner in the 6th minute. Janssen seized the opportunity and converted the penalty corner, scoring his fifth goal of the league to bring the score to 1-1.
Dragons Take Control
Soon after, the Dragons began to dominate. In the 19th minute, Nathan Ephraums scored a brilliant field goal, giving the Dragons a 2-1 lead. Just two minutes later, Blake Govers added another field goal, extending the lead to 3-1. Within a span of just two minutes, the Dragons had turned the game in their favor.
Pipers Fight Back
In the third quarter, the Pipers bounced back. After a successful video referral, the third umpire awarded them a penalty stroke. Tomas Domene stepped up and converted the stroke, narrowing the lead to 3-2. Both teams traded penalty corners, but neither could convert the opportunities.
Final Quarter Drama
As the game entered the final quarter, the Pipers pushed hard to equalize. In the 49th minute, they won another penalty corner. Tomas took the drag-flick, but David Harte made an excellent save. Jarmanpreet picked up the rebound but failed to score. With just over four minutes left, the Pipers earned another penalty corner. Despite a re-award, they couldn’t find the back of the net. Captain Whetton also earned a penalty corner in the 57th minute, but once again, Harte’s defense stood strong.

David Harte’s remarkable goalkeeping helped secure the Dragons’ 3-2 win, and he was deservedly named Player of the Match.
