Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025: Three Quick Goals Propel Soorma Hockey Club to a 4-1 Win Over Bengal Tigers
Soorma Hockey Club secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Rarh Bengal Tigers, with three quick goals in the third quarter leading their comeback in the Women’s Hockey India League.
Soorma Hockey Club kicked off their Women’s Hero Hockey India League 2025 campaign with a strong 4-1 victory over Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers. Soorma’s goals came from Olivia Shannon (38’), Charlotte Englebert (42’), Captain Salima Tete (44’), and Sonam (47’). The Tigers’ only goal came from Hannah Cotter (7’) in the first quarter.

Early Control by Soorma

Soorma controlled the game early, creating multiple scoring chances. Despite their early dominance, it was the Tigers who struck first. In the 7th minute, Hannah Cotter scored with a powerful shot after receiving a free hit, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Soorma quickly responded by earning the first penalty corner of the match in the 11th minute. However, Penny Squibb’s drag-flick was well-defended by the Tigers.

Tigers’ Attempt to Build Momentum

The Tigers attempted to build on their early lead in the second quarter. Grace Stewart dribbled past the Soorma defenders, but Savita, the Soorma goalkeeper, made a key save. Soorma then regained control and put pressure on the Tigers’ defense with relentless attacking play.

Disallowed Goal for Soorma

Soorma continued to dominate possession, winning four penalty corners in the second quarter. They scored in the 21st minute, but the goal was disallowed after a video referral revealed stick interference by a Soorma attacker.

Quick Turnaround in the Third Quarter

Soorma turned the game around in the third quarter, scoring three goals in quick succession. They earned back-to-back penalty corners, but Grace O'Hanlon, the Tigers' goalkeeper, made two brilliant saves to keep her team ahead. Rarh Bengal Tigers earned a penalty corner in the 33rd minute, but Udita’s drag-flick was blocked by Soorma’s defense, keeping the score at 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.

Soorma Equalizes and Takes the Lead

In the 38th minute, Soorma equalized. Penny Squibb carried the ball upfield and passed it to Deepika Soreng, who set up Olivia Shannon. Shannon fired the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1. Just four minutes later, Soorma took the lead. Charlotte Englebert scored from a penalty corner variation, putting Soorma ahead 2-1. In the 44th minute, Salima Tete extended Soorma’s lead. The captain scored from a tight angle, making it 3-1 and putting her team in a strong position.

Sealing the Win

Sonam sealed the victory with a penalty stroke in the 47th minute, completing the scoreline at 4-1 in favor of Soorma. Soorma Hockey Club started their campaign on a high note with a dominant 4-1 win over Rarh Bengal Tigers.
