A magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit the Bay of Bengal early Tuesday morning. As a result, tremors shook Kolkata and several parts of West Bengal. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake struck at 6:10 AM IST at a depth of 91 km. Although the tremors caused panic, no damage or casualties have been reported so far.

Soon after the earthquake, the NCS posted an update on X (formerly Twitter). Their statement read:
