Jaipur police arrested ‘IIT Baba’ Abhay Singh on Monday at a hotel for possessing ganja. Authorities acted after receiving information that he had mentioned suicide on social media. However, police later released him after determining that the quantity of ganja was small.
Police Explain the Arrest
Station House Officer (SHO) Rajendra Godara of Shiprapath Police Station shared details about the incident. He said, “We received information that Abhay Singh was staying in a hotel and might commit suicide. When we reached there, he admitted to consuming ganja and having it in his possession. He also mentioned that he might have said something while unconscious."
Since possession of ganja is a crime under the NDPS Act, police arrested him. However, they released him on a bail bond due to the small quantity. Godara added, "His followers informed us about his social media post suggesting suicide. If needed, we will call him again for interrogation."
Abhay Singh’s Reaction
While being arrested, ‘IIT Baba’ spoke briefly to reporters. He said, “I have nothing to say about this right now. It's my birthday, and I want to be happy today."
Singh, booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, was later released on bail.
Previous Clash with Saffron-Clad Group
Just days earlier, Abhay Singh was involved in a scuffle during a news debate in Noida. On Friday, he claimed that a group of “saffron-clad people” attacked him with sticks inside a newsroom.
In his complaint, he alleged that the group entered the studio, misbehaved with him, and assaulted him. Following the incident, he protested outside the Sector 126 police outpost. However, after discussions with the police, he withdrew his protest.
Sector 126 SHO Bhupendra Singh confirmed that Abhay Singh eventually chose not to file a formal complaint.
Video Footage of the Altercation
Videos circulating online showed Abhay Singh in a heated debate when a group of sadhus entered the studio. The argument escalated, and he attempted to leave. However, the exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear.
